I don't think I will ever use it for the OS so if that's the only benefit of the extra cache then probably I don't need it?
Regarding the hardware, it's MSI K8N Diamond nForce4 SLi with an X2 4400 cpu.
I already have a 150 Gb raptor but as I intend doing plenty of video editing, I need a second drive for storage, probably around 250 Gb. Which one should I go for and do I need raid?
Cheers
I know, I know but believe me it's not that simple and I can't really explain it here.
Do you think the 1800XL would be better than the 7800GT and also which one would be more quiet?
So which memory should I go for? (cpu will be X2 4400+)? I was thinking the Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200PT TwinX (2x1GB). Will that cause me any problems and what should I do?
Does a Sapphire Radeon X1800XL 256 justifies its almost £100 extra cost compared to a Powercolor Radeon X850XT 256MB DDR3?
Or should I go in between for a Inno3D GeForce 7800GT 256MB?
A mate who is supposed to know (I know very little) has recommended them but I have my doubts.
They also come with the faster firewire (IEEE1394b) compared say to asus
I am thinking of getting one of those for an X2 4400 cpu, any comments/impressions and also how does it compare with the Gigabyte K8NF-9 nForce4 mobo?
thanks
Cheers for the replies, I'll go with what you recommend.
Just to make sure though, by akasa amber you mean this one? http://www.akasa.co.uk/akasa_english/spec_page/fans/spec_ak_183_l2b.htm

I am about to build/buy a new system based on:
X2 4400+
2 GB of ram
Raptor 150 GB 10k cache
Powercolor Radeon X850XT 256MB
Coolermaster Centurion 532 case & Hiper 580W Modular PSU UV (or Enermax Noisetaker 535W ATX V2.0)
However I know nothing about cooling and what exactly should I...
Need to build/buy a good system mainly for video editing and 3d rendering. Budget is £1000-£1100, I need everything except the screen and would probably prefer the X2 4400+ processor.
Cheers for any help!
Newbie here so apologies if my question is stupid. Are there cases which include the PSU and the fans and if yes then which one offers best value for money? The cpu will be X2 4400.
Thanks,
f.
