The one and only signature creation thread

Sorry – Sigrotor seems to be broken again (more hosting problems with the PHP version). I'll try and fix it tonight. Edit: Ta-da. It's working.

The one and only signature creation thread

I've fixed Sigrotor – was caused by my web host auto-upgrading PHP and breaking some old code. Should be back to normal now (fingers crossed) :) Didn't realise it's still popular!

How to spend a day in Edinburgh?

Thanks for the tips :) Looks like the museum and/or castle are on my itinerary, and the gardens too. Looking for somewhere not too pricey to eat in the evening (probably no more than £10 for a main) and ideally somewhere casual I can chill out for a bit as well without looking too out of...

How to spend a day in Edinburgh?

I'm going up to Edinburgh tomorrow for an interview (well, the interview's on Thursday morning) and need some things to do on my own while I'm there. What should I check out? Anywhere nice to chill out? Where's a good place to eat in the evening? I'll be arriving at 14:30ish if all goes to...

What's a good chain for a 9sp XT chainset? I've heard good things about some of the SRAM offerings – are there any compatibility issues between Shimano/SRAM here?

    Cooking with Haircut: Pizza

Well here's my attempt! Topped with red onion, ham, salami, sweet red pepper, mushroom, capers, mozzarella, cheddar, and tinned plum tomatoes, tomato pureé and sundried tomato pesto for the sauce, with some dried oregano and basil thrown in for good measure. Made the base with about a 2:1 ratio...

    Cooking with Haircut: Pizza

Awesome, that's lunch sorted for today – thanks! All I have in the house in the way of flour is the strong wholemeal I usually use for bread – will this work for the base? I'm not too bothered about authenticity as long as it tastes nice

What's the worst food mistake you've made?

Tried to make a savoury cake a few days ago. Not quite sure what happened but the oil didn't combine with the flour properly and it ended up essentially being a lump of very oily dough, which started frying when I put it in the oven, with the oil bubbling around the edges of the dish it was in...

Do you read the Daily Mail?

The paper gives itself a bad name, actually – it doesn't even need to be parodied. Did you read the genuine ones, or does your doublethink see no problem with them? They're almost as absurd as the parodies.

Do you read the Daily Mail?

At least it's better than Fox News. Sure, but in other papers they're covered by actual journalism.

    Good unix editor.

    It's antiquated and obsolete :)

I keep finding mysteriously placed w, b, j, k, /, :, and all kinds of odd characters in the text when I'm using an editor other than Vim…

    Lil maths help please.

To be honest if you're going to express a complex number in terms of a magnitude and argument, there's no reason to use the trig form when you can use the exponential form. Depends what your course expects of you though, I guess!

    Lil maths help please.

Fair enough. The exponential expression is far more concise, though, and it's generally the preferred notation for complex numbers, at least in most applications :) Also, remember to normalize the argument of w* :)

    Lil maths help please.

For the complex conjugate, just negate the argument; in this case, arg(w*) = -(2/5)*pi. Also, polar form means it should be expressed as an exponential: w = exp((2/5)*pi*i) w² = exp((4/5)*pi*i) w³ = exp((6/5)*pi*i) w* = exp(-(2/5)*pi*i).

    Would you go to space

Quite unpleasant, unless you're used to it. You know that falling feeling when drop on a roller coaster? That's what it feels like :)

(It may take some time to get used to but it's so worth it.)

    Tell me about knives.

Great advice, thanks :) I'll head into town at the weekend and see if I can find somewhere to try them out.

    Tell me about knives.

Yeah I'll have to go and try them out I guess. Which shops would have a decent range of knives though? Also really liking the look of the three piece I.O. Shen set here!
