Thanks guys.
Loving the EeePC option but have found another couple. so give me your views on these three.
1. Eee_PC_1015PEM
2. Eee_PC_1015PX
3. Acer Aspire TimelineX AS1830T
I can get the Acer for £407 (I'm sure I can go without having two pints for the extra £7;)) by claiming back the...
Well as title really. It served me well and I think it was my favourite computer thingy ever. Got it the month it was released and it's had its fair share of use.
So time to move on \o/.
I was looking at "up grading" for a while now but didn't really need to until now.
The alienware m11x rev1...
I currently have the Viewsonic VX922 which must be getting on for 5 years old. In it's old age it is starting to suffer from the swollen caps problem which means having to preform a 3 pin reset every now and then when I bring my PC out of sleep. This has forced the issue of upgrade time.
I...
Stellarium is an amazing bit of software. The google sky map app is pretty handy to.
Watch Sky at Night every month (normally the first week of the month) for some info and interest.
One of, if not the, best source of info I use is the jodcast(subscribe in the about page) podcast. I really...
Just ordering a build for a work computer and need to know if the Intel Core i3 530 retail package comes with a heatsink? It is going to be running stock so the standard heatsink will be more than enough for my needs. Thanks in advance.
Ok after some thoughts I have come up with some solutions.
Sealed case seems to be the way forward as although components such as the HDD can operate at upto 95% humididty () this is non condensing, which it would be. This does give a problem with heat the from the processor and PSU...
Wanting to run a PC based on the Asus atom mobo (Asus AT5NM10-I) Which has a passive heat sink. Going to run 4 gig of ram and a 5400rpm 2.5" hard drive. The PSU will probably be a standard ATX desktop unit.
It is going to be 'inside' a small observatory which will probably give protection...
Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything has a couple of chapters on astronomy and is aimed at the 'layman'. Some of the comparisons, facts and figures could e helpful to you.
Sounds like it could be Saturn. Stars twinkle more towards the horizon but panets rarely twinkle. [edit for not reading ahead. It is Sirius]
If you saw the ISS tonight you also saw the docked shuttle and 2 astronaughts at work.
The size I am looking at is more in the size of a car battery. Going to need to bassically power a laptop and periferals for upto 8 hours a time in one location then packed up and taken home in the car to charge in the garage.
If i were to use the appropriate external power packs for...
I am looking to build a portable power source to power a few electrical items whilst away from mains power. I am having a look into building it around a caravan or Leisure deep cycle battery and mounting it, the relivant output sockets(mostly cigar lighter), an input soket for an external mains...
OK. I have server space that will be free to host a project like this around mid January so hosting isn't a problem for the start of the project. The affiliation is up to the OcUK bods but I think editors and admins should be elected from the forums.
Content wise, all PC and hardware stuff...
Im thinking along those lines but thats just one aspect of the hardware forums. Technology guides, OS and software, networking, history and background. Maybe if the project takes off a magazine style sub project?
Would any one be interested or see a use in an OcUK wiki?
I know each of the forums have stickies with relevant links and posts which somewhat fill the roll of community knowledge base. But I think a wikipedia style wiki created by the OcUk community could include a lot more info that can be...
