Trading the 18-55 for an 18-135?

Thanks! The extra reach was what I was looking for so the 17-55 really doesn't help me. I will have a flick through your flickr later!

Trading the 18-55 for an 18-135?

Ok guys I will have a look at the 15-85! I see your point, I have a 70-200L anyway I just liked the idea of a lens for my crop body camera having more reach than the kit lens. Thanks for the input :)

    Help with first DSLR

The kit lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5 but you will see as you zoom in that raises to f/5.6. To get a stronger blur yes you will need a lens that has a bigger aperture, and the first port of call is the 50mm f/1.8, the problem I found with a 50mm on a crop body is it can sometimes be...

Spec me a lens - for DSLR

His name is Wayne Brittle, he's local to me and does presentations all over the UK of his work, i've been to 2 of them. He was kind enough to lend me a CF card when I purchased my 5D as i didnt even think about memory when I purchased the camera! A great guy! www.waynebrittlephotography.com...

Spec me a lens - for DSLR

It depends how you like to shoot your landscapes. I love the work of a local landscape photographer who regularly gets published in the likes of derbyshire life/staffordshire life magazines. His method is to stitch 2-5 shots together shot with his 17-40L at around the 35mm region and from...

Trading the 18-55 for an 18-135?

Has anyone here done the above? I'm looking into a new lens and considering the above to give my a bit more "reach" as well as having the 18mm end? I cant see a review for the 18-135 on dpreview so wondered if anyone here uses it? I know canon do a 18-200 but in the past I've heard not...

Focus on imaging, NEC Birmingham, anyone going?

The show was far busier than I expected but I did go on the Sunday. I spent around 3 hours looking around, couldnt get on the canon "DSLR Bar" to get my hands on a 5DII with 17-40 on it, but did wait in line to have a go with the super telephoto lenses upstairs! I came away with a bit of...

Focus on imaging, NEC Birmingham, anyone going?

As title, seen this starts a week tomorrow for 4 days, is anyone here thinking of going? Never been before and not in the market for new gear, is it worth a visit for a bit of inspiration and to drool over some gear?

    A few from yesterday

I like number 1 for some reason, the deserted street and abandoned shops showing quite well the story of all of the UK high streets. I'd however like to see a B&W conversion on this and its a real shame the sky is over exposed as a moody sky would finish it off for me!

Looking into a second camera, full frame???

Hi Ray, I have contacted a lot of local wedding photographers to see if they'd allow a shadow photographer to join them on a booking (obviously if their customer approved too) to learn about how things happen, I'm even willing to travel a long way for the opportunity! As for the weddings...

Looking into a second camera, full frame???

Ok, in the OP i said i'd charged low amount, really just enough to cover my expenses on the day as well as my costs for prints & albums. The people who's weddings I am doing are aware i've never been a photographer for a wedding before, both are registry office ceremonies and a reception at a...

Looking into a second camera, full frame???

I have sealed 2 wedding bookings this year, nothing fancy but only charged a low price, really just for some experience with doing a wedding for people I know who aren't after top end wedding images, just a collection to look back on in years to come. Now currently I have a 550d but feel...

    Moooooooon

Yes I've come on here with the ipad and I agree, I edited it on the pc and looked less over exposed on three, time to set the monitor up properly! Was a spur of the moment shot in my case, I can't remember my settings for it but will try and remember where the 70-200 is at its sharpest for...

    Moooooooon

I like! I took my 70-200 F4 out for similar the other week, looking at it now it seems rather poor in comparison. Taken with my 550D and cropped like crazy!

    Bridge Camera?

I'd either save a bit harder and get an entry level DSLR, (I sold my 1000D with 18-55 for less than £180 recently) or get a more advanced compact. Bridge cameras are just trying to mimic a DSLR making the user feel they are holding a better, more professional camera, they seem to focus a...
