Time to upgrade the Nifty 50

Out of interest, why upgrade the nifty fifty? The lens has fantastic quality and is really only let down by it's plasticy build. But with that kind of IQ? I can forgive it and I shoot professionally :) Cheers, James

My woes continue - please help?

Okay, so I had a problem with my previous PC build sometimes not switching on, so have changed: 1). PSU - Vcool 480w 2). Motherboard - Abit SG95 3). CPU - Pentium D 925 2x3ghz 4). RAM - 2 x Crucial 1GB AND IT STILL DOES IT! Sometimes it won't switch on, only removing the PSU...

    Y hello thar...halp? Dead PC

New PSU fitted, same problem! PC passes (when I can finally start it up) memtest86 okay. Oddly, if I remove the BIOS battery and give it 5 mins, it will start... Anyone any ideas before I chuck it all away and buy a new 'un? Cheers, James

    Y hello thar...halp? Dead PC

Sorry, didn't choose my words carefully. I was actually installing software - Live Onecare... The machine won't even POST, so I'm hoping it's the PSU and that it hasn't taken out any of the other components with it... Cheers, James

    Y hello thar...halp? Dead PC

Hi all, Just installed something this afternoon and then restarted the pc and now nothing. The fans power up and the drive lights flash, but I can't hear the hard disk accessing and there's no output from the screen. Dead PSU? It's an ebay cheapy (the PC) and the PSU I see is some Q-tec...

    New PSU

I'll probably get shouted at for this, but assuming your PSU is delivering the correct amount of power, a new one, no matter how expensive is unlikely to gain you FPS/better scores. What you MAY notice is fewer crashes, lower temperatures and generally SMOOTHER performance. Most people...

help newb building please - not spec check

It is indeed paste, I fitted one yesterday :) The really important thing with any socket 775 cooler is to push those pins into the motherboard two at a time, diagonally opposite each other. Make properly sure that it's seated correctly as you do NOT want it falling off (still worried about...

    London trip advise.

Watch your wallet / camera / iPod. Seriously. With the greatest of respect to our friends across the pond, they are often ASKING for trouble. I've seen people walking around Soho with Nikons, iPods and Mobiles on full show, sometimes on belt clips. This is tantamount to wearing a sign...

Is this vdroop? Is it fixable or....?

Just today bought a Asus P5P800-VM motherboard. It's working fine, touch wood, but I notice that in PC Health in the BIOS, the power supply figures are all over the place, also when it updates (about ever 1.5 second), the CPU temp varies between 33 and 43 degrees. CPUID reports the same...

    Problem?

It is sounding like a suspicious 'board. Are all the voltage rails healthy and the temps okay? Is there a BIOS update for the motherboard (if you can get it stable enough to receive it). Cheers, James

I was offered an ATI X850

It's the same card I've got, and mine unlocked to 850XTPE speeds. Sadly, I didn't get the 16 pipes I was hoping for, but the overclock still works out fine. Cheers, James

    Problem?

Are your RAM settings correct? It sounds like it could be RAM related? Perhaps it's just worth checking those details compared to what the manufacturers quote? Also, what PSU are you running? low power can cause all sorts of crazy-ness. Cheers, James

    Beat this guitar

Sorry to be boring, but another vote for a Pacifica 112, they are without doubt the best around at that price point and are more versatile than their looks might have you believe. Also, the amp in the package you showed us is dreadful. Not just dreadful, but ear-bleedingly dreadful...
