    ATI Catalyst™ version 10.7

For those of you in my position I'm currently testing out the 10.8 beta5s from the guru3d forums, and they are working well so far. No bluescreens yet (of course I'm going to get one now I've typed this) and it still contains the fix for the disappearing starcraft elements. Not sure if I'm...

    ATI Catalyst™ version 10.7

I was in the same boat, I found the 10.5a driver to be best for my setup, but there is a bug with starcraft that makes the units disappear with that driver, it is fixed in 10.7 and 10.7a, both of which regularly bluescreen my machine. Between a rock and a hard place, my patience grows thin.

    ATI Catalyst™ version 10.7

10.7a are decent so far on TF2, none of the instability I had with the 10.6s. 2x5850. Edit: Awful performance on Bad Company 2, I was struggling for playable frames and the second card was sitting at 27% load. I just can't see the point in crossfire anymore. Time to return to single gpu town...

Need a spec for a little rig

Wise advice, be very careful of entering into an unofficial support contract with friends and family. I do this stuff for a living and I can tell you first hand the last thing I want to do is spend my evenings and weekends rebuilding operating systems and removing spyware. If they buy directly...

HTPC Build - Comments and Criticisms Please

RAM is so cheap at the moment that it would be a bit of a false economy to go for 1GB DIMMS I think. I'm assuming that you can run 64bit OS on the atom, but now that I think about it, I haven't actually checked. Any ideas? The S10V case comes with the whole VFD IMON malarkey, and a remote which...

What do you think of NZXT cases?

These cases offend my eyes and make very sad in my pants :(

HTPC Build - Comments and Criticisms Please

That's exactly what the crystalhd card does, and I don't intend on doing any post-processing so sounds like it will be ok without one. My main concern was the power consuption with the 2 full size hard drives, but if you are sure the 150w will be enough I will get this project moving :D

Hooking X-Fi Prelude up to Receiver via analogue for surround sound in games?

Under either Dolby Digital Live, or DTS Connect you need to hit the settings button and make sure SPDIF is selected too, then you should get the sound coming through.

HTPC Build - Comments and Criticisms Please

Thanks very much for the reply chipps, to answer your question its mostly about power and noise. I would like this to sit under the TV and run the media centre/PVR without me having to worry about the heat/noise produced. I have seen the crystalhd cards demoed on netbooks which struggled with...

Visual tearing issues with Crossfire 5770 setup

Yep, no rivatuner type apps or anything, using 10.5a.

Visual tearing issues with Crossfire 5770 setup

To update this, I tried disabling vsync in TF2 while it was forced on in CCC. Immediately got the top half of the screen tearing. If I set vsync on in both it seems fine.

Best method of hooking up PC to receiver?

I have tried the game with a Xonar DX and my Auzentech home theatre card and I still experience the problem sometimes. If you are using a creative card on windows 7 or vista you need to use ALchemy to enable hardware sound. That improved the quality but decreased the stability of the game. I...

Hooking X-Fi Prelude up to Receiver via analogue for surround sound in games?

I used to have my amp connected with the analogue out using three 3.5mm jack to RCA phono cables, so it is certainly possible. However you will be better off using the SPDIF or HDMI if you have those available. If you have a look in the creative control panel you should see options for upmixing...

HTPC Build - Comments and Criticisms Please

Been nailing down my components for a while, and I think I've finally got enough information to run it by you knowledgeable lot ;) * I want it to go under the TV as a media box with internal storage capacity, so I need it to be able to support two 3.5" hard drives. * I would also like to be...

    Zotac Ion-F-E / OrigenAE M10 MCE

I'm about to build one of these myself but I would like to get two 3.5" drives in mine (looking at the 2TB WD Greens) and was wondering whether the little 150W pico power supply would be able to handle that? Since there isn't space in the M10 for the hdds, I am considering putting the zotac...

    PC360 vs HD600 - Advice Requested

I am pretty sure my sub can accommodate that, so I will definitely give that a shot. The sub is the only thing I would miss even remotely from my 5.1 setup. How would those of you that own the 600s characterise the sound? Marsman hinted that they aren't great for rock music and as I said I...

    PC360 vs HD600 - Advice Requested

Thanks very much for the feeback talon, good to get the perspective of someone who owns the 600s. I think I'm going to go all out 2 channel. Scrap the sound card and use the onboard spdif to my old DAC and amp, and connect the 600s to that with a separate mic. I'm going to start work on a SFF...
