Windows 7 won't install - "Could not configure on computer's hardware"

Thanks - this seems to have worked, although I remain a bit nervous that there is a wider issue that will rear its head at some point. Time will tell I guess. Many thanks for the help.

Windows 7 won't install - "Could not configure on computer's hardware"

Trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on new build but keep getting the error "Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer’s hardware". Have tried unplugging all harddrives except main harddrive and still no dice. Any ideas? Specs: Mobo - Asus M5A97 Evo R2 AMD 970 CPU -...

    Buying Laptop (£600 budget)

Thanks for all comments, very helpful. I'm unlikely to go for a 17" as I find it a bit too heavy and cumbersome. Although it won't really leave our apartment, it won't be static on a desk either and will most likely always be on her lap. Looked at the Samsung option. Do all Samsungs...

    Buying Laptop (£600 budget)

Evening all, I would like to buy my other half a laptop for her birthday. It doesn't really leave the apartment so portability isn't a huge factor. She would use it for work, surfing the net, watching the odd HD movie / tv show and Skype. Style / design is important too. Screen should be...

First speaker + amp purchase: advice needed pls

Hi all, I've had an HTPC connected to my 47" LG LED tv for a year but have put up with the integrated sound from the telly for all of this time in order to save up for a decent speaker and amp system. I now have £1000 to spend (with a stretch to £1500 if needed). The system will mainly be...

    Iphone 4.3.1 Jailbreak Expected Today!!

I have a 3GS and no issues. Perhaps the issue is related to the production week of the phone, i.e. new models after 2009 week 45 need to be flagged when jailbreaking through RedSnow. On a different note, anyone know when the iPad2 jailbreak is due?

    Iphone 4.3.1 Jailbreak Expected Today!!

Indeed 4.3.2 JB works a charm. Maybe it's just me but battery life seems to be going much quicker...

    Tomtom App

Literally just got this last night. Tested it out today and it seems to work well for the most part. It did "lose" me at one point and thought that I was on a totally different road but it sorted itself out quickly. Also turning it off is a bit weird since you can't close it from within the app...

iPad 2 backlight bleeding - who is affected and what will you do about it?

Finally got my iPad the other day. Perhaps I was lucky, but there is no obvious backlight bleeding at all.

    Surround Sound for Cinema Room

As above! If you've made the effort to develop a dedicated cinema room, then the sound is not something to neglect. Personally, I think you're looking at £1000ish at least for a decent set-up. That said, if you've never had a separate sound system in the past, then a 5.1 AIO set-up in your...

    Best 3D TV

I have the LG LX9900, which I did plenty of research on and is regarded as one of, if not the best LED on the market. The 3D is excellent - I've not yet experienced any crosstalk. It may be out of your budget though.

About to purchase HTPC - Would appreciate some advice

Fusions are interesting, but apparently availability is scarce (see here: http://news.softpedia.com/news/AMD-Fusion-Motherboards-Apparently-Scarce-185145.shtml). Also I'll be doing a bit of transcoding and prefer to the option to upgrade parts which is more limited in Fusion boards.

About to purchase HTPC - Would appreciate some advice

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I can see none of the 5400 series have an hdmi out port, so I would have to connect it to tv via a dvi-to-hdmi cable which doesn't carry sound? Would I be better served by one of the 5500 cards which actually have an HDMI port in the card, e.g. The...

About to purchase HTPC - Would appreciate some advice

Thanks. Indeed it will be used primarily for HD video with a bit of Internet and such so will drop CPU to an Athlon tri-core. Will also add an HD5450. I assume any of those listed on OCUK will do the trick? Also any advice regarding the sound?

About to purchase HTPC - Would appreciate some advice

Good advice - I was thinking that the CPU might be overkill. I might scale it down to a Phenom II Dual Core 3.40ghz.

46" LED Telly - Please help choose

Indeed, aesthetics is merely one consideration. The point is that LEDs look great and many perform really well. To add another model into the mix, I quite fancy the LG Infinia 47LE8900. Seems to get excellent reviews.

46" LED Telly - Please help choose

I was initially keen on the V20, but I'm slightly put off by the fact that it's a) heavy and aesthetically not as chic vs. LEDs - just my opinion but I'm sure others will disagree; b) widely cited buzzing noise and c) size - will dominate my living room. Appreciate the links though - will...

46" LED Telly - Please help choose

Many of you may have seen my a thread of mine last week detailing how my previous tv (Samsung LE40M87BD) died a sudden and unexpected death. On the plus side, it gives me an excuse to buy a new telly. Unfortunately I think 46" is the limit in terms of size as anything bigger would completely...

Did my Samsung 40" LCD TV just bite the dust?

Just got off the phone with the engineer. Apparently the LCD panel is faulty and would cost c. £480 to replace ex VAT. So total cost is around £580. Absolutely staggering really. He asked me what I want to do but I guess I'll tell him to recycle it and buy a new TV. Thoughts?
