    North London Bodywork Repair Advice

Deos North London stretch as far up as Broxbourne to you? If so there's a father and son who seem very good based on the jobs I've seen on two friends' cars - I will know first hand next week when they can start work on my car... The company name is Rich Body Car.

    Skoda Superb replacement?

Sure, petrol direct injection turbos have plenty of torque generally at or around maximum at 1500rpm, not like naturally aspirated petrols of old. 8 speed torque converter gearbox will also help.

    Speedometer Incorrect - Help Please

Can't guarantee this will do anything but most cars have a self test mode which sweeps all the needles back and forth a few times for testing purposes. This might reset it and allow it to sit at zero. Have a search for your particular model of mini and you should be able to find out how to...

What does the button on the gear knob of an automatic car do?

I had this issue in my Mk4 mondeo some years back. The button somehow broke and then the shifter would move freely (provided the brake pedal was depressed) - thought it was strange but that's the mechanism failure mode.

    The Mondeo is no more

Indeed, I once got a standard tumble drier in the boot of my Mk4 hatch without so much as removing the parcel shelf, let alone folding down the seats! Just put it in and shut the boot!

    The Mondeo is no more

A shame. I had two mk1s, a mk3 and a mk4, all were great. The mk3 in particular seemed to be such a step up from the earlier models and in some ways less cost cutting than the mk4 with "German" characteristics such as gas struts for the bonnet, chain driven cams, easily removable tool less...

What's the mileage on your car, want to see the highest mileage ..

I ran a Mondeo mk1 1.8 petrol ex-taxi for a couple of years, gave it away still running at IIRC 291.000miles - it needed a new starter motor at some point and quite a lot of oil but I did 40 miles daily while I had it it without any other trouble. I also had a Peugeot Expert 1.9D van with the...

    high mileage club?

About ten years back I had a Peugeot Expert van, S432 DAA, with the naturally aspirated DW8 engine with around 230k on the clock when I sold it to a farmer who said he would use it as a barrier to block one of the entrances of his farm. About 15 years back I had a Mondeo mk1, 1.8 petrol, N694...

    Mondeo MK3 1.8 Petrol Misfiring

Just an idea - these Mazda engines are known for failing inlet swirl flaps. If a cylinder is making noises you may want to check there is no foreign object in it.

What is this, why is it there and why can’t I use it?

It's exactly what you think it's for but AFAIK it's UK regs that don't allow it to be used. You can restore functionality by carrying a suitable pin to insert into the holes in the trigger.

Mk 3 Focus estate number plate light....

Can you remove it (assuming it's easy) and either post pictures or a part number - I have the hatchback and we can compare - not sure why it would be a different part but if it's not then you're in luck. Damn LEDs, they are supposed to outlive the car....

    Tracing dealer on iDrive history

Just a quick update - had to call an 090 number who told me the dates the car visited a dealer and which dealer it was (Stratstone) but couldn't tell me what had actually been carried out or the mileage - so I then called the dealer and they were able to provide the details. So the services...

    Tracing dealer on iDrive history

Thanks. Thought it would be easy to find the dealer based on that number and just give them a call directly. Scania I don't know what you googled but when I did it brings up Cotswold Cheltenham BMW instead...

    Tracing dealer on iDrive history

Hi Looking to buy an F30 and have found one I like - however, looking at the iDrive there's 37.000 miles and 20 months between its first and second services. Now I know that the service intervals are variable but there's no way the computer would stretch it that far. I'm guessing the number...

Car history check ,2 year old Discovery conning up different colour?

Another possibility: it's not black but dark brown which is noted as red. My colleagues RR is a dark purple which looks black in low light but that's down as brown on the logbook. Also, I once owned a mk1 Mondeo which was dark purple (aubergine), also looked black in low light and that was...

Many Questions, looking at options for next car choice

The model you posted is the one I'm taking about and exists from 2014 onwards model - they are definitely available with auto boxes on the 120hp 2.0 petrols and the 150hp 2.2 diesels (the more powerful 165hp petrol is manual only). Auto braking is available on these, it's called Smart City...

Many Questions, looking at options for next car choice

To add another to the list, Mazda3 2.0 Sport? Not the fastest thing but with a simple 2.0 naturally aspirated engine and torque converter gearbox it should be reliable long term, looks good inside and out, and plenty of equipment. It's what I'll probably be changing my Focus mk3 for when the...

    Ford Mondeo tdci for £10K

The Mondeo boot is larger than 90 percent of cars out there, I got more in mine than my friend's F10, including a regular size washing machine/dryer without folding the seats down and crucially without even removing the parcel shelf. Just opened the boot and put it in. That was a Mk4...

W220, Mercedes S350 Things to check for?

Surely fixing your W203 is a better reliability prospect than getting even the best cared for W220? Realistically speaking at that age anything and everything can fail, and in a W220 in an expensive way indeed.
