    Upgrade Advice - Asus X99-A with i7-5820K

Software overclock with the ASUS AI Suite gave 40x100 on stock cooler albeit in a massively ventilated old school Lian Li V1000... which is good enough for 0 effort. Any good guides for a manual overclock on the X99-A? I haven't properly overclocked since the Q6600 era!

    Upgrade Advice - Asus X99-A with i7-5820K

Thanks all - as I feared there is no cheap magic bullet. I use it for numerical analysis (MATLAB, NumPy) and some gaming....but that has tailed off since BF1 and Battlefront II.. currently playing B4B and Baldur's Gate III - it's perfectly acceptable on 1080. No overclock as yet - might get...

    Upgrade Advice - Asus X99-A with i7-5820K

Hey all, I have a venerable Asus X99-A LGA2011-v3 with 32GB of ram. It's been my workhorse for a few years and I wanted to know what the best chip would be to wang in? Or am I flogging a dead horse? Is it a Intel Core i7-6850k - which looks to be 10% faster?

Spec me a £2k Gaming Tower

Hey all, Quick and dirty... £2k to spend for a primarily gaming PC for step son. Just want the tower to swap into pre-existing mouse, keyboard... and his old screen (details to follow). He plays Valorant at an occasionally sponsored level. I'd like there to be a bit of future proofing - so...

Hey, A pal has a case, Corsair 750W and wifi card (and everything for outside the box ). He needs mobo, memory, gfx, storage, optical... (i will update you on the res, likely 1080 rather than 4k when he gets back to me). His usage is currently Warthunder , but he will expand his repertoire...

    Old Rig Upgrade advice sought.

Thanks for all responses. Budget depends on his bonus, lets say 600ish... 980 for 300 quid, 24" monitor for 200 and 50 for another 8GB of RAM... leave the chip well alone? Would it bottleneck the 980? Would he be better served just getting a cheapo 1080 24" screen that isnt 144Hz?

    Old Rig Upgrade advice sought.

Eeek, I don't think he wants to go that mad on Dual 980s for £700-800! Diablo 3 is 4(?) years old and Dirty Bomb is DX9 and probably already do 144fps on the 6800! So let me reframe... what is the best bang for buck upgrade for the current set up, with some longevity for the graphics card. Is...

My mate is running ASUS SABERTOOTH P67 (CPUs supported) i5-2400 @ 3.1GHz With 2x4GB AMD Radeon HD 6800 series SSDs The gfx is getting very long in the tooth.. and no good for the iiyama 24" 144Hz screen he has decided to upgrade to. Obviously a further 2x4GB of RAM is indicated .. but what...

    2x Barco F35 Projectors at 120Hz

Hey, I need to drive two Barco F35 projectors @ 120Hz using 4 x 960x1200 inputs. I also need it to be a FirePro or QUADRO (we are doing psychophysics experiments and so need good hardware timing from qualified drivers). Why 4x 960x1200? Well to drive each of the Barcos at 1920x1200@120Hz...

    BF4 - replace 8800 GTX with...

Forgot to respond.... I got a HD7950 CDII 3GB to replace the old 8800 GTX. Enabled Mantle... and went from Low in all Settings to High in all settings on BF4. Pulls a respectable 60fps+ Q6600 lives on... and with winter coming... it still doubles as a handy room heater.

Thanks for all the answers chaps; very, very helpful I didn't specify a budget as I just needed to know what was out there. A 280/ is now looming in my future. Will report fps and eye candy changes. Ta.

Swapping iMacs - is there an easy way?

Just use migration assistant from yours to theirs... it just adds a user account. Assuming each has enough room you do not need an external had drive. But in answer to your question - it will be fine... it does not delete pre-existing accounts.

MBA 11" - yay or nay?

Got the 11" with i7 and 8GB (get 8, not 4). Had a MacBook 13" before. Do not miss the screen real estate. Occasionally use the iPad as a second screen if I am working in XCode and want some reference available without alt-tabbing. That was true of the MacBook too though. And when really...
