    Home Weather Station Advice

Hi all, Not sure if this is the best forum for it; but here goes anyway! I'm looking to buy an entry-level home weather station for my father. Requirements are that it can wirelessly transmit data back to house and then upload to the likes of Weatherunderground. Also to include a readout...

    Planning an SSD

Hi Wazza [or anyone else who knows!], Question: I've finally taken the SSD plung and have ordered an Samsung 840 evo 120gb. I currently have two HDD's in my system: no.1 has my Vista install on it / no.2 is a large drive for storage only. My plan is to fresh install Win 7 on to the...

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Hi matey, I've purchased a 2nd hand Geforce GTX 560 Ti for £60 delivered. Should receive it tomorrow so will tell you if this makes much of a difference!

2x2gb + 2x1gb DDR2 Dual Channel, Both Matched Pairs of Same Brand / Type - work ok?

As the title says really! I currently have 2x2gb matched pair of Geil Black Dragon DDR2 Ram installedon my system. I can get hold of another 2gb (2x1gb) of the same brand / timings etc for dirt cheap and so was thinking of doing it for a cheap performance boost. Question is whether or not...

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Thanks Mcstylist, I think I'm going to grab these second hand (looking at just over £100 for the two): - GeForce gtx 560 ti; and - Crucial M4 64gb. Idea being that the two above will give me a good boost on my current rig but will also be usable on a future rebuild. Seem ok for £100ish?

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Hi Devrij, I'm already running my q6600 at 3.3ghz so don't think I can squeeze much more! Quick question - does my mobo allow for another 2x2gb ram sticks to take me up to 8gb total (I'll great another identical pair of geil black dragon). Is there any merit in sticking in one single 4gb...

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Thanks AlecR. I take it that the performance boost from a 7,200rpm hdd will still be massive though even on 3gbps sata?

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Realised that my sata interface is only 3gbps; would that be of big detriment to an m4's performance?

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Thanks gents. Particularly like the idea of getting a cheap ssd as I find that planetside hangs at times due to hdd reads going nuts.

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Thanks guys, I'm really not too keen on spending £350/400 on a new mobo / CPU / gpx / ram if possible as I don't play enough games any more to warrant it. Really if I can spend a £100 and get say a 30% improvement in fps I'd be happy! Would even a budget new generation gpx card at the £100...

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Good point! Ideally only about £100. Willing to spend a little more although then I may as well get a new mobo / CPU / ram? Also forgot to mention my psu: it's a corsair tx 750. Cheers! Jon

Time to ditch my good'ol Q6600 build or worthwhile pursuing a cheap upgrade?

Evening all, Simple question really - I currently have the following build: - Intel Q6600 @ 3.3ghz; - 4gb DDR2; - Radeon 4870 512mb; - 7,200 rpm HDD drives; - Vista Ult 64bit I don't game as much as I used to and have therefore found it to be fine on most games. However, recently...

    Sky Fibre Optic

Hi guys, Quick question: I am about to move to a new property which currently does not benefit from FTTC. Thus I can only get Sky's LLU package rather than fibre as it stands. However, according to the BT Wholesale Checker, FTTC is planned to be available from September. Question is...
