    The nervous wait to exchange....

I can't recall ever doing a concrete sub-station, I've done a few new build sub-stations but the regs on those require them to be shielded so it's never been an issue. The concrete would provide some basic shielding, but nothing spectacular. I'd guess if your more than 5m away the levels would...

    The nervous wait to exchange....

I sometimes do EMF surveys for work, from my experience going out to sites and testing it around my own house anything further away than about 5m won't make a blind bit of difference. I recently did a survey of power lines, on a pylon, which was directly above my head (I was 5.3m directly under...

They normally check against where the child benefit is paid. My wifes part of the admissions team at our primary school and confirmed this is checked in our area. But I agree as a parent you want the best for your children, it's a hard call. You could risk missing your catchment area school...

Advice on a rainproof sunshade for a problematic pergola

What about a retractable canopy fitted under the cross beams, would be a nice close fit so fairly shaded? could be mounted side ways so the water runs off towards the railings. How to Build a DIY Retractable Pergola Canopy (thespruce.com)

    Repairing a Henry Hoover

I repaired mine last week, it's just for taking out the vibration/padding and not required for operation. You'll notice henry shakes a bit more without it however.

Our first one has some eczema, it does not sound as bad as you're little ones but we found Orchard Farm Body Wash made the biggest difference, we had various creams from the Dr which didn't seem to do much. Also going from a bath every day to a bath every 2-3 days helped.

    Managed IT Services

Not sure the cost of 80 Macs would sit nicely with the budget for the next year, plus we run Sage200c on 35 devices which is not Mac supported. But I get what you're saying. Thanks for the input the rest of you, seeing £34k/year for 30% of my workload does not really make sense, possibly...

    Managed IT Services

Thanks for the info @AHarvey 2 of the locations are 2+ hours each way, the other is 1+. I'd say 90% is remote support with site visits required for new hardware mainly. £7K sounds a bit high, but doing the figures for one of the smaller companies it comes out only a bit lower. I'd thought...

    Managed IT Services

Hi Quartz, Not sure I'd say 20% of a workload is utterly trivial, just ask anyone if they want to take of 20% more workload for nothing and see what reaction you get. The above takes up around 30% of my workload but the rest of my workload is where I'm wanted to do more and help grow the...

    Managed IT Services

Hi All, Due to my workload being too high I've been told I need to free-up some of my time and look at outsourced IT support. Short story, I manage the IT for a group of companies I work for, between the group we have 80 desktop/laptops and 10 servers split across 4 different sites each with...

I'm fairly sure kids learn throughout the day not just at the nighttime routine, seems a bit harsh of you're other half to take that sort of stance. Personally I'd not be too worried about the "lack" of talking, kids are different and comparing one to the perceive normal does little good. We...

    Mortgage Length - 2, 5 or 10 years?

Maybe, I don't pay a fee or get charged as I have family in the business so I don't think they have much to gain. Looking back at the cost for a 5year fixed, it would have cost me £61/month extra a month to fix it for 5years as apposed to 2 which I did. So over 5 years it would have cost me an...

    Mortgage Length - 2, 5 or 10 years?

Personally I think 2 year fixed is fine, discussed with our mortgage/financial adviser and he always recommends 2 years and sees little point fixing for more for the majority of people. One thing extra to take into account, if you take a 2 year fixed and within that time go into a lower LTV...

    Changing Bonus Pay

Thanks for the input guys. I've got a meeting requested to talk about the change, I forgot to mention but at the time of change I did put across my opinion that I would lose out on money with the changes. It was slightly brushed aside but agreed we would look at it in 6 months time, which is...

    Changing Bonus Pay

No figures, just a bland statement as below. On our yearly "pay sheet" where they specify our new pay levels after pay rises it's always said the % bonus I'm on, but that is the only place it's in writing. Statement from the contract:

    Changing Bonus Pay

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this, should they have consulted before changing? We get a company bonus on 2% of the profit after TAX every month, this 2% goes into a pot which is then split between employees. I use to get 5.5% of said pot and various people got a...

    Outdoor playhouse

I've not seen this one in the flesh, but when I started looking about the Toys R Us ones I looked at didn't seem brilliant build quality. I went for a BillyOh in the end and it was good, slightly better build quality I think than the ones I looked at. They do one very similar to the one...

New Contract - I allow my data to be send outside the EU

Little bit more, I took it up with my MD and after she spoke to their MD and the owners it was decided it was not legal to add the clause so it's taken out of my contract and everyone else is getting written amendments to their contracts taking it out. #closethread
