Video capture problem using S-video port?

If i remember correctly, when s-video plays in black and white it means its not supported by the device. Same thing happens if you put a dvd player to s-video mode on a old tv (which doesnt have s-video). It would seem odd that the graphics card doesnt support it when it has an s-video port...

    Hardware DVD decoder cards

Has anyone had any experience of hardware dvd decoder cards? Im in the process of building a cheap htpc, its gonna be using old components. The processor is either a 1.2ghz celeron or a 1.3ghz athlon (depending if i go micro-atx or full atx) So basically its gonna need all the help it can...

how do i run 2 monitors on one pc?

you need to have 2 ouptuts on your graphics card. Which you should have if its anything current. Then you run one of the vga port, and one of the dvi port (possibly with a dvi to vga adaptor) Then its just a simple matter of clicking a box in the display settings window to extend the desktop...

Random freezes - Maybe not so random

Well this is odd. I thought I would check the warranty status on the drive. Its still covered, but they ask you to run powermax (their diagnostic program) on the drive first. I ran it, did the tests that dont delete any data and it comes up fine. All tests passed. The drive is now recognised...

Random freezes - Maybe not so random

No Looking back it does look like that, what i actually meant was a new cpu cooler and chipset cooler. Ran hdtune on my main drive, everything is fine there. However my second drive has now disappeared, and it seems the freezing has stopped. Looks like I have found the culprit, as that drive...

Random freezes - Maybe not so random

Over the past day or two my pc has been suffering from random freezes for a second or two every say 15-20mins. Annoying but I could live with it. Just now its started doing it every few seconds, certainly not acceptable! (Reboot has stopped it for now, but im sure it will start up again soon)...

    Best Socket A Cooler

I can vouch for the SI-97. Just bought one for my xp2500 and im very impressed. I dont think the temp has risen above 40 degrees since i fitted it(or even reached it). Compared to 52+ under load before.

    what do u think ?

That motherboard is a PCI-E board, your graphics card will be AGP, so you will have to get a new graphics card im afraid. You shouldnt have to spend to much more to get a card of similar performance. Plus you can always sell your old one to help pay for a new one.

    Silent HSF

maybe its my motherboard thats causing the rubbish speed control. The SI-97 came today, just finished fitting it now, along with a zalman passive northbridge cooler. The thermalright is a beast, only just fits below the psu. Working pretty well too it seems, its about 14 degrees cooler at...

    Silent HSF

I like that logic! Im using speedfan at the moment, but the fan thats on there will only go down to about 2500rpm before it turns off completly. So its not actually very quiet even when idleing. Dont know if thats the fan itself or the motherboard, or even the settings on speedfan, but its...

    Silent HSF

Found a thermalright SI-97A (not sure on the difference between the 97 and 97A, but it seems identical) and ordered it, wasnt cheap but hopefully worth it. Planning on getting an Akasa amber 92mm, im assuming this will be fine for it. The one they recommend, a panaflo puts out more air, 48cfm...

    Testing a Hard drive

Health report on HDtune The error scan didnt find any errors. Just tried again with the western digital tools, and its still not even recognising that the drive has been changed. Im just downloading some other programs that test drives, see what they say.

    Testing a Hard drive

I just bought an untested western digital WD800JD (80 gb sata) of ebay. My plan is if it works to replace my current ide drive containing windows with this one. Then using my ide drive in a different computer without sata. I have just run HDtune on it and it reported no errors and says the...
