    Help with wi-fi reception

TL;DR My wireless reception is rubbish, can anyone recommend a USB powered aerial on a lead that could (would) help by letting me place it away from my wireless-dead-spot-of-doom Hi All. I'm struggling to get wi-fi reception on one of the computers in my house. Unfortunately it's the...

    UEFI GPT woes

oh and then once I do that I'll be able to repair the installation in legacy mode? Is there a way to select the HDD for legacy operation? I've had to resort to installing windows on a really old 75Gb Raptor so won't be able to get back into the *BIOS* until that's finished. Thanks for your help...

    UEFI GPT woes

Hi All, *cheery face* Ok, so to cut a long story short, I just swapped an old M4A785 Motherboard for a new M5A97 Motherboard (both were from Asus) and now windows is not booting. On the repair installation page the option to do a repair installation isn't available because of the following...

*wonders if that was solved by my first suggestion, read the manual* *giggles*

    electrical problem

It might be worth giving the manual a read to see if there's any specific power requirements. Does the shredder work in the socket your TV / hifi / computer is plugged into? (although I wouldn't recommend moving them to sockets that the shredder won't work in) It may be worth you investing a...

    Toilet prone to clogging... solutions?

If you're gonna use acid, follow the manufacturer's directions to the letter. If you don't whatever blockage is in there will just turn to a big lump of carbon and then you're in even more trouble because more acid isn't going to shift it. And if you do use acid and have to get a plumber out...

    Plumbing as a Trade???

you've really got two choices, pay 5K for a 8week crash course and spend 6-9 months getting the work experience for the NVQ level 3 qualification (which is what im going to do starting from the 10th) or spend 2 years at college on day release (9 months for NVQ level 2, anotehr 9 for NVQ level 3...

    Water meters?

generally, if you're in a property that's not full to capacity (i.e. a 4 bedroom house with only 2 people living in it) then you'll be better off with a meter. Saved my parents a bundle after me and my brother moved out. in case you were wondering, it's about 89pence per cubic meter of water...

    High electric bills

i have one of those prepayment meter jobs, i hate it. paying 11.3pence per kWh was bad enough but now they just hiked it to 13.6, my parents pay half that on a proper meter. and i get through about £8 - £10 a week depending on how much i game and do laundry. when i start my training course next...

    I've bought a new car!

Am I the only person in here that's concerned about this purchase considering AJGoodfellow's previous love affair with Astras? Or maybe I'm just the only one that remembers (and takes the time to mock him about it). Roll up, roll up. Place your bets, place your bets... I give you 12 months...

    scart to S-video woes

Ok. This should be a fairly simple problem for those that actually know something about this sort of thing (which is going to be more than i do). First off, setup: VIrgin media box (yeah, i know... but i have to live with it) Dell 2407WFP A02 one scart to s-video / stereo RCA (with an...

Millions of motorway drivers do 100mph daily

I thought I saw sometihng about this on an old topgear (or equivalent) in Germany on the autobahns. They paint white lines perpendicular to the lanes next to a camera and if you're closer than 2 (I think) lines to the car infront then they send you a photo with a fine attached in the post.

    NUCLEARUS BENCHMARK :)

It feels so inadequate compared to 'modern' cpus. Ah well, another cpu to put in a box on a shelf to show the grandkids. It's a Winchester core.

    Network/print share issues

OK, all the machines had windows firewall running for some bizarre reason (probably came back online when i reinitialised the network and gave it a new name etc) I've narrowed it down to the firewall for the moment, if i re-run the auto cofiguration thing and check standalone and domain...

    Network/print share issues

OK, its probably best to start with a breakdown of the equipment involved so... downstairs is one computer connected physically to the router, upstairs is two computers connected wirelessly. router = WG834GT wifi cards = WG311T (2 of) Wifi cards are set up in infrastructure mode Now, the...

    Outsourced

Well... To cut a long story short, my temp employment contract ends at the end of this month because they're moving my job to Brazil where they can pay the locals around £5 a month rather than the £13.80/hr they pay my agency (of which i see £8.50/hr). Woo Yay Gah. I want to hurt someone...
