What do you guys think about an old 2500K proc - OC to 4.5 GHZ ( around £90 on ebay ) then use a radeon 4890 until the next gen cards come out?

On 64 bit OS? Yeah 4GB. 8 GB wont bbe used, but 6GB should be considered an upper limit atm according to THG.

yeha clean CMOS. If still nothing, try popping your mobo CD in. I have the P5K, andso I'm assuming yours should auto detect the bios update and flash it.

DVI will carry less noise to teh monitor than VGA, you wont notice any Clocking noise. Auto detects your resolution too :) Deffo go DVI. HDMI isnt any better, unless ur passing sound through aswell.

dead CPU?

reset to default settings, NOT optimized ones. That should do it. If not... turn off everything you dont need. Set all CPU/MEM params to defult/AUTO. GFX card settings should be at defaults too.

DX11 is a redesign of the shaders etc. There will be quite a lrge difference between the chips. I am taking an educated guess here and saying NO. Not for DX 11 games anyway you wont be able to Xfire. Anything below SHOULD be ok.

But nothing will use DX11 for a while... so you will be safe for the next year or so. Look at teh slow uptake on DX10 :)

If you get anything on screen initially it may just be the gfx card is running at a refresh rate / frequency the monitor does not support. If not - check the connections. Have u got a fresh HDD in? Is the BIOS beeping once, or multiple times?

Got a decent corrsair 600 watter.... runs stable as a rock.

I'm going with the 4890 personally, will clock higher if you plan to od that, plus its got more frames on crysis at 1680*1050. Ordering mine todaty :)

14K... for that you'd expect a fair few frames.
