    Hiking, backpacking, trekking, mountaineering...

The Talon is more technical, lots of good features, I've had one for 5 years or so and it's still going strong, getting on for 100 day hikes in that time. Probably a bit overkill for mixed use, more expensive (rain cover would be an extra purchase) and looks very technical which I wouldn't want...

Sounded like a great trip, hope you enjoyed the rest of it. Pic of my car front and centre in the spirit of this thread, I think you're behind the 911 Turbo!

Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Yeah, 2009 brought the DFI engines into the 987 Gen 2 as well - 2.9L replaced the 2.7 and a new 3.4 in the 'S'. Should be able to get one of the former for that budget with the usual myriad of Porsche options to suit your preferences :).

    Last of the V8s

It is also a heavy car, knocking on 1700kg, but there's more than enough power to overwhelm the rear tyres especially with the standard Pirellis! Quite a bit more power available ala R or SVR I believe, but not something I'm particularly interested in :o

Car purchase that has some niggles

My F-Type was also bought remotely as Approved Used, and was similarly described and poorly prepped. I collected it from a local dealer in the same group and was going to reject it until they agreed for to me to get quotes and the issues (tracking, and a number of paint problems) sorted locally...

That's pretty accurate from my experience, having gone the other way from a 2011 Cayman S (so fairly similar to a regular 997.2 911) to a V8S F-Type. My Cayman such a capable car that there was no sense of drama until scary speeds, the GT models are probably going to be worse in that respect but...

Help me choose a new car OcUK

I ended up with a F-Type V8S having broadly similar criteria this time last year, though I was coming from a 987 Cayman S (so ruled out the 911 as not enough of a change) and wanted a convertible again. Should be a decent selection of F-Type R coupe or convertibles around £40k including approved...

    Hiking, backpacking, trekking, mountaineering...

Quieter spots i.e. away from Loch Lomond/Trossachs and popular Munros are definitely the way to go at the moment. Galloway Forest is on my list too, we've mostly been hiking/camping between Peebles and Moffat this summer. Not a massive leap to going wildcamping if you're a regular hillwalker...

Same roof strategy for me, though I have had to stop on the hard shoulder under a bridge to put the roof up when the rain got heavy enough to beat the airflow at motorway speeds :o. 'Problem' I had when looking for something to replace the Cayman was that nothing else in the Porsche range...

Looks good, and towards the purist end of the spec. Mine was PDK and most of the options, it was nice as my only car to switch between normal driving and a bit more of a blast. I didn't really consider the Boxster at the time, not sure why - had a convertible before and am back in one now. It's...

Very nice, what spec/options? I sold mine earlier in the year, had it for 3+ years and aside from a number of mechanical issues (fortunately I had it under warranty!) it was a great wee sports car - the sweet spot in the Porsche range for me :)

    Road trip popularity to rocket?

Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry definitely the best option from up here, I've done that twice and used the Channel Tunnel once (and once only!). The ferry is quite a bit more expensive but effectively saves 2 days worth of driving on mostly boring UK motorways - not something that is a great bookend...

    Porsche air con £200!

https://www.zunsport.com/en/porsche-cayman-981-manualpdk-with-sensors-front-grille-set They protect the radiators which are quite exposed to potential damage from stones. Such damage unlikely to be covered by warranty but conversely the grilles could affect airflow and void the warranty anyway...

    Porsche air con £200!

I did both on my 2011 Cayman which was also under warranty, first time whilst in for a service to be covered if there were any major issues, was £130 I think. Couple of years later just had it regassed at Kwik-Fit for about £50. The warranty mandates using OEM parts even if work done outside the...

Yes, and it's actually up for sale now, had it 3.5 years. 2011 PDK with lots of options.

    Porsche Cayman - Dying

Similar symptoms to mine including the PCM rebooting frequently when my battery was dying/dead, about £300 for a new one inc. fitting. The Moll batteries they use don't have a great reputation but you're stuck with them for warranty compliance. 3 year warranty on the battery, my replacement died...

Post Your Daily Encounter Pics Here

I've not seen one that low before either and have been looking since the summer - a few higher-mileage or private sale ones in the low 30s only. Prices have come down in the last few months, but there's a decent choice of examples around 35k.
