Yup, if you're unsuccessful and you choose to bequeath your fee, you can either donate your entry fee to charity, or they'll send you a London Marathon fleece.
I've heard from running clubs that by bequeathing, you increase your chances of entry by a few per cent, so it's always worth a shot :)
Aye, all this investment in superstar players will only serve to further distance the "bigger" clubs from the fans. The premier league's loss is the Football Leagues' gain :)
I'd definitely reccommend Nike+. I did a marathon a couple of months ago and found the nike+ with ipod invaluable for tracking distances during training and also used it to track the big day.
If you do decide to get one, make sure you calibrate it first - I found it to over estimate running...
