    Acoustic guitar and strings

Using heavier gauge strings will make your fingers hurt even more as the strings will be under more tension. Don't try putting nylon strings on an steel strung acoustic or steel strings on a nylon acoustic guitar - the first one will not feel right as classical nylon strung guitars typically...

    Police state cometh.

I'm sure that 'Dame' cressida dick could have used this enterprising technology to prevent her officers shooting an unfortunate brazillian electrician, one Jean Charles De Menezes (poor *******). Perhaps a 19% success rate might have been enough.... Still, all that aside, it doesn't...

Probably the pedal I was banging on about earlier lol or at least something very similar. Opinion on the talkbass forum is fairly evenly divided.... some think it's great, others not so much. Depends on how it's being used I guess. Damn! Why didn't I think of that already lol. I'd be super...

Our old guitarist used to play our whole set using this thing. Never had any problems to notice. I did consider heavier strings, but I had a fret leveling and setup under string tension; the guys who did it were quite specific about how the setup would change with different string weights...

Because our singer's range is best suited to singing what we play in Eb standard tuning so the whole band tunes down to Eb. Otherwise we'd play in standard. I've tried just tuning down the E string but it causes problems with some of the riffs we play (take master of puppets as an example).

Yes, using it with my bass. I already have the standard hipshot tuners on the guitar (hb7 iirc?). For the hole pattern they took a while to source and they were about 25 quid each. Adding the detuners to all of the machine heads would be kind of neat in a michael manring kind of way, but not...

Thought I'd give a small review of a pedal I've recently acquired. Digitech Drop pedal. https://www.digitech.com/whammy-pitch/DROP-V-01.html I've been looking for an alternative to drop tuning my bass (commonly Eb) - without having to use heavier gauge strings. I have my bass set up for...

That's a nice bass mate  You could always look at wireless guitar leads. I have a 'pair' (transmitter/receiver) of boss wireless 'leads'. Gotta say being free from the tyranny of cables is pretty sweet. Latency is not really a thing with the wireless tech in the way it can be with...

Where's the pictures, you tart? You can't say that without letting the rest of us bassheads oggle the new shiney! :p (I know I'm a week late with the demanding post... I'm a bit slow)

    Android for the elderly

As the title really. I'm after suggestions for a non touch screen phone for my mum. She's in her mid 70s and struggles with any kind of technology. She suffers from reynards syndrome which causes problems with her fingers not reacting to the touch sensitive screen. She currently has an older...

RIP Paul Darrow (Avon from Blakes 7).

Sad news. I have vague memories of watching Blakes 7 when I was very young. Have been watching some of the episodes on youtube recently. The sets and costumes were always a bit iffy - a reflection of the budget at the time I suppose - but seeing them again, it is the characters and their...

    What book are you reading...

Currently reading The Gulag Archipelago (volume 1) by aleksandr solzhenitsyn. isbn 978-0-06-125371-3 I stumbled upon an audio book of this from the 1970's on youtube and decided I had to read it for myself. Volumes 2 & 3 are waiting on the shelf. My overriding impression is that of a rabid...

Cheers for the feedback mate. I went and picked up a little 2 channel version of your behringer monitor amp, a couple of xlr cables (for a desk and the DI on my amp head) and some in ear doodads. Should be interesting come Saturdays rehearsal - I'm hoping to be able to hear myself over the rest...

Ibstock - what it like to live in?

My mum lives a couple of villages away from here. By all accounts it's not too bad. I drive through a couple of times a week during morning rush hour and compared to getting out of leicester before 8 am it's a breeze to drive through. The village itself is fairly well self contained as far as...

What do you use for the in ear monitors, if you don't mind my asking? Would you recommend a setup and what have you found good and bad about it? Sorry, lots of questions ;) This is something our band has thought about, but were unsure if it would work, or how we would use it effectively. My...

Mate of mine has the katana 50. He wishes he'd got the 100 for band rehearsals. That said he does like the features of the thing though. By all accounts it's a great bit of kit.

Another Squier bass update: During my month off over christmas and the new year, I decided to see if I could get a fret leveling done. However there aren't too many guitar repair places around leicester any more. Sheehans in the city has been gone for a while, and so has the little music and...

People who go and sit in their car to eat their luncheon at work

My work colleagues are not my friends. I already spend more time with the people at work than I do with my friends and family... so why would I add my half hour lunch break to that already unreasonable amount of time spent with people who I don't choose to spend my time with? Don't get me wrong...

    Stupid Woman.. or Stupid People?

I'm already satisfied that that is what he said. Asking me the same question couched in different terms is not going to get a different answer :) Anyway, have a good new year, fella; sink a few for the year past and the one to come, I know I will :p

    Stupid Woman.. or Stupid People?

To you? Why? I don't have to prove my opinion of what he said any more than I expect you to have to do the same for your opinion on this matter. I'm not a tory or a labour supporter, as far as I can see they're both deserving of a critical eye. Especially when they do something that is so easily...
