    Triple Glazing Review - Internorm

Hey! Sorry for late reply. In the end I kept on kicking up a stink and they replaced the faulty sash. BUT - we'll never use them again. We're currently planning a rear extension and are looking for patio doors and windows. Velfac is another option but you have to go through resellers. The...

House Refurb: Wired Networking the place

Thanks - that's really helpful - especially the idea of replacing the mesh. I'm not rewiring the whole house so will look into whether I can use the APs as mesh points as well.

House Refurb: Wired Networking the place

Hello I'm about to have a load of work done on our house, including an extension, and significant remodelling on the ground floor, which is where our router is situated. Since we're also going to insulate the outside of the house I figured it'd be a good time to run CAT6 cables to all the rooms...

    External Wall Insulation

Thanks for all the responses. I'm definitely worried about the damp risk - relating to breathability of the boards/ render. If ventilation can mitigate this, then I'm down with that. I've also noticed some houses around my estate showing algae - and wondered if this was a problem with the...

    External Wall Insulation

Thanks! I've got insulated plasterboard in some rooms but not others. I just had a web-chat with the EWI store guys and the difference between the prices is significant for not a huge difference in performance. EPS 90mm is £8.94 per board for a uvalue of 0.3 and 70mm K5 board is £18.89 for a...

    External Wall Insulation

Hello! We're planning a big extension project at the moment, and whilst we've got the "drains up", as it were, we're looking to install a heat pump, solar, and external wall insulation. Our house is a solid brick wall house so it gets really cold in the winter. We've got a couple of decent...

    Underfloor Heating and Carpet Underlay

Yeah - I think you're right. We might just do it so it serves the landing upstairs only - just to take the chill off Thanks

    Underfloor Heating and Carpet Underlay

Thanks - I had seen this stuff already but we'd rather not pull up the carpets and replace the underlay (which is not perforated). So my question remains whether this would be a sensible idea or not.

    Underfloor Heating and Carpet Underlay

Hello! I'm planning an extension and scheduled to start work in March. Whilst doing this we're going to swap out our boiler for an Air Source Heat Pump (plus external insulation) and fit wet underfloor heating to the floor of the extension and the rooms we're extending out from. We've worked on...

Gutter repair - Am I being mugged?

Thanks - I'll go with it. Appreciate the sense check. It's just I've been burned on the guttering previously so I'm a bit wary.

Gutter repair - Am I being mugged?

Hello! I had new gutters fitted by a really rubbish fitter some years ago. Wonky and with clips missing. Additionally there are some loose tiles on my roof. One part of the gutter is leaking. Someone was doing some work next door so I asked if he'd be able to fix the leaky gutter. He...

    Need a new mouse

Hello! I've had a Logitech G700 for about ten years. Love the mouse. Now it's starting to not hold down on the right mouse button very well, which is rubbish when you're trying to snipe in games. I'm thinking of maybe taking it apart and installing a new switch, but also looking at a new...

    First time Driving to Europe

Hey all! Just a quick note to thank you all for the advice. It all went flawlessly. Even the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk was fine (we got there super early). 1200 miles driving in total. What amazed me was that we got all the way from London to our destination in Germany using only 3/4 of a tank.

    First time Driving to Europe

Well that's freaked me out! We're going this Sunday. Also on the 10am ferry! It's a 2 hour drive down from north of London, so I think we're going to aim to get there around 0800. Why's it so bad, I wonder?

    First time Driving to Europe

OMG - this is amazing. I think there is indeed a "Travel Mode" on the Touran. I'll check later when I get home. Will definitely research the route for service stops. Our destination is in Hessen, so we'll mostly be in Belgium and Germany.

    First time Driving to Europe

Ah yes! The v5c and insurance docs too, I think. I have a magnetic sticker for the back. Have ordered a spare in case the one on the back gets nicked. Thank you!

    First time Driving to Europe

Hello! I'm taking the family on a driving trip into Europe for the first time this summer. We usually go by plane or train. You guys always have excellent insights and experiences, so I've a couple of questions: 1] We're taking the Dover-Dunkirk ferry. I'm hearing the queues are terrible, and...

    Roof Box or Roof Bag

Ah that's interesting! Does it not sag between the rails and touch the car roof?

    Roof Box or Roof Bag

Hi there! I'm about to do a LOT of driving across the UK and Europe with the family. We've got a mid-large size MPV. It has a 3/4 length sunroof and raised roof rails onto which we can mount bars. We're looking at a roof box to get some more space. But the prices are crazy and I don't like...

    New skirting boards

We went with "proper" wood as opposed to MDF. MDF has an advantage in that it doesn't shrink, although as others have alluded to it can warm when damp. Anyway - if you do go for normal wood skirting keep it in the place you'll be installing it for a couple of weeks before cutting and installing...
