What colour would you like your new car in, sir? White Gold please....

I find this hard to believe. If a car is limited by its traction from the line, theoretically, and obviously ignoring the extra power required, we could increase the weight of the car over the driven wheels. This would increase traction to allow a greater power and faster acceleration...

    MX5 tell me about them

I went from a Xsara VTS to a 1990 1.6 MX5. Never looked back! Fun cars to drive, I rarely miss the power and the possibilities for modification are endless.

    Xsara VTS v Clio 172

I had a 2001 Xsara VTS for a few years from when I was 19-22. It was a great car, 100% reliable and felt very fast at the time! It was great fun driving day to day, especially as people in their VW and Audi diesels underestimated the car and looked bemused why I was able to pull away from them...

    A bit of trucking insight.....

To be honest I can't believe that trackers are not fitted as standard! Also I'm sure there could be some sort of motion sensing alarm developed for the trailer which can be enabled once the vehicle is stationary?

Sock full of rice also has a similar effect of absorbing moisture, just take out to dry on the radiator once it feels damp.

Looking to buy a Mazda MX-5

Sounds good, cheap price. Look for rust under the boot lid as it's common for Mk2's, although not a big deal it will give you some bargaining power.

Last 'play' you had with another road user

In my Xsara VTS I pulled away from a traffic light with a car in front somewhere on the outskirts of Leeds, after we had passed the junction I overtook the car in front, having held the car in 2nd gear. Continued at full acceleration up the road, next thing I know a blue Audi RS4 who I had...

So, I fire up the mx5 for the first time in 5 months aaaannd . . .

Spray selected areas of your engine bay with WD40 (i.e. Alt belt + power steering belt) to see if it makes a difference. You will have to replace the belts after though because when the WD40 dries out it will squeal like crazy.

    Advice on London trip

Train seems mighty expensive. Are you travelling off-peak? Young persons rail card is £26 and saves a third off ticket price (plus allows you to return on peak trains using an off-peak ticket). Not worth the hassle driving, you won't want to drive anywhere in London if you are sight seeing anyway.

    993/996 turbo

993 turbo is IMO the ultimate Porsche. It is the prettiest with the most iconic shape of all 911's. As a daily driver I would probably opt for the more modern 996, but for a special car the 993 every time.

    Better car phenomenon

I found things were pretty much neutral in my Citroen Xsara (as expected, really). But in the MX5 people will often overtake, undertake through tiny gaps, and accellerate round me to cut in front of me on a slip road. Not quite sure why, I drive in exactly the same way.
