    passwordless

I finally took the plunge and installed Win11 Pro on my home PC. After a few days of smooth operation l was greeted with a "PIN is not available on this device" or something of that nature blocking me from being able to log into Windows. I had to reinstall Windows/software and make sure l...

PC wont boot and is "hunting"

Do you have a motherboard speaker to connect to the motherboard? They are dirt cheap and it should give some insight of what is the issue.

Could AMD retreating to mid-range & Nvidia becoming out of affordability scope help optimization?

Skipping the high-end for a generation isn't all that bad. If my memory serves me correctly they did it with the Radeon 3850 and 3870. AMD needs to work on their RT performance and power efficiency with RDNA4 in order to have a great mid-range card.

The motherboard started not booting up with 4 dimms populated.

Two sets of two DIMMS. I was running CPUz which lists the timing information of each channel. I put the new set on RAM in slots 2 & 4 which are recommended slots for running two modules in duel-channel configuration and l was getting errors in memtest64 with XMP on and also with running at stock...

The motherboard started not booting up with 4 dimms populated.

I am using the latest BIOS 7C95v2J, which uses AGESA ComboAm4v2PI 1.2.0.B. The new set of RAM fails in memtest64 even when running at stock 2133Mhz after a few minutes. Tried upping the memory voltage to 1.4 to no avail. The old set has no issues running memtest64+ using X.M.P. Seems like l...

AMD Ryzen 3600 to 5600 (or higher)?

The system seems capable for what she does but a faster processor like the 5700x would be a nice boost to overall system performance. What RAM does she have?

Building a new office PC for my old man

Since you are going for a 5600G, l would suggest getting a 3600MHz RAM kit instead of a 3200MHz one. 16GB should be enough for some general usage. You can always add more in the future if the need arises.

Windows Security hangs on Full Scan?

Either a clean installation of Windows or just another free AV solution if a clean installation is too much of a hassle.

Doesn't Malwarebytes Pro disable Windows Defender? Try disabling Malwarebytes realtime protection before running a scan with Defender.

    How are MSI motherboards?

I had an MSI motherboard die on me back in the Z77 days. I am now using an X570 Tomahawk Wifi for a few years with no issues.

    Sub £200 upgrade

The title reads sub £200 upgrade but it seems you are going to be replacing platforms, too. Since you are coming from an 8core processor l wouldn't buy a six-core processor for a new gaming system. An eight-core like the 7700x would be a better choice.

    1660 6GB or Rx 5500XT 8GB

Try inserting back the old GPU and installing the latest version of your BIOS first. Maybe it's a BIOS issue. You can also try disabling the onboard IGPU in the BIOS and see if the problem persists with the onboard GPU disabled.

I don't game but my home PC's 3900x feels faster than the 2700x system l am using at work. Hopefully, there will be some nice deals on 5800x/5900x on Black Friday.
