My Kolink Citadel Mesh case has 3 fans connected to an RGB controller (the RGB cables and the PWM cables all go in to it). The controller has 3 connectors coming out of it which are SATA, RGB and PWM fan.
I also have a RGB fan on my CPU cooler which has a PWM and RGB connectors.
I'm not sure...
Hopefully building a new PC later today. I'm going to buy a key off the interwebs for Windows. I know I only need Win 11 Home but Pro is the same price (or cheaper on some websites). Is there any downside to installing pro?
Is there any reason to choose 10 over 11?
Cheers,
Dub
You got me thinking about 4k too :D However, in the end, I looked at the prices and just went for a 27" 2kk 144 hz model. Will get the 32" 4k one in the future and pass this one down to the kids.
Thanks for the tip on the slot covers. I’ll remove those before installing the motherboard.
I’m not clued up enough to do workarounds to bypass any hassle caused by doing an offline install. What’s the best thing to do if I’m installing online?
Hi - I'm building only my second system ever and actually my first build in 15 years. I put together a list of things I need to do so I don't get overwhelmed when all the bits arrive. I'm NEVER this organised but I may be without a computer before the build happens so Googling for info will be...
memtest before windows and realbench after, right? Never used realbench (have been using Mac for years) and from screenshots it looks like a Windows app.
What tests should I run after I have built my PC and updated the motherboard BIOS but before I install Windows? What tests should I run after installing Windows?
I remember running memtest back in the day. Is that still a thing? Anything else?
Cheers,
Dub
If you really only want 2k rather than 4K aren’t there good options that are much cheaper than the 4K dell? Eg Dell G3223D
I’m in the market for the same thing 2k 144 hz.
Would the peerless assassin be a better bet for the cooler if you care about noise? It's not THAT much more expensive but in the gamers nexus review I'm seeing for another cooler it seems to have great performance on their charts. (sorry that will absolutely be my last question in this thread).
@tamzzy do you need to buy fans to go with the one you recommended? Any particular ones you recommend? I agree quite is better!
Hope OP is ok with me asking this here - I am hoping this is useful info for them too.
Update - I impulse purchased a used RX 5700 RT graphics card for £140. I trust the seller so am not worried about reliability but I hope I didn't make a mistake from a performance point of view. Worst case I will just game at 1080. It's a lot cheaper than the recommendations above and also a lot...
@tamzzy do you have any concerns about recommending AM4 components now that AM5 is the future? Do the savings make it worthwhile in your opinion? I am tempted because when I built my last system 15 years ago I was very concerned about upgradeability but then I never actually upgraded anything...
Thanks very much - i will spec up a system like this in the custom PC prebuilt section of the retail site. Any reason you went for Intel CPU rather than AMD? I thought AMD was more bang for the buck these days (I've been out of the loop for yonks so maybe I've misunderstood this bit).
I'm also...
I wanted to get an idea of how much I need to spend to meet the three different requirement levels in the original post. I will then figure out a budget based on these.
Hi - I need to buy a PC as I'm about to be made redundant and will lose the laptop I do everything on today. I've wanted to build a PC for ages but I'm opting for a pre-built one as I'm scared I'll take too long to build it or will run into problems, causing delays. I need one sooner rather than...
Sorry to necro an old question but really hoping someone can offer advice. My kids have their Surface Go 3's now and i need to order a monitor this weekend. It SEEMS to support 4k!? I was a little surprised to see that for such a cheap device. Can anyone else confirm? Is it worth buying a 4k...
Looking for a cheap usb c monitor for each of my kids. Will connect to surface go 3 for now and maybe basic gaming build in future. Is this a good buy? Seems to have usb c connectivity so hoping it can charge device and show video at same time.
My kids’ school is going ‘digital’ and I’ve got them Microsoft surface go 3’s on a 2 year lease from the school. I will buy laptops when the list of approved devices matures, in 2 years. I MIGHT do them a kids / low to mid lvl gaming pc build each soon too but am not sure yet.
What monitor...
Did you mean Ryzen 6? If so this is exactly what I'm worried about. Right in my sweet spot price-wise but a whole new generation.
So you'd say just go for a Ryzen 5 or equivalent Intel chip then? I think you make a very fair point.
