Fair enough! The main thing is just having a workflow that suits and results that satisfy :)

Are you both using precision baskets? I only use my bottomless PF, mostly for ease of tamping, cleaning, more clearance for cups and rarely have any significant spritzing (I've got white counters too so would definitely see). I don't use a WDT either, I'll stir the grounds in the Niche cup...

    Fuji X Series

I do like my X-E3 a lot, I’ve had it almost two years now, bought from the official refurb shop so doesn’t sound like it owes me much at all. Imagine quality is great and focus performance was a nice step on from the X-T10 I had. I preferred the handling of the X-T10 and often find I...

I know that feeling. Hence I ordered a Mara X first but knew it was not quite what I wanted so went for the Rocket. I think the prices have gone up another £100 since March. I don't think the Rocket machines offer good value for money on the face of it compared to Lelit and ECM/Profitec, but...

Mine is a Mozzafiato, essentially an appartamento but with the addition of a PID, shot timer and pressure gauge.

Also, learning to pour seems to be a never ending learning curve and the second you think you've got it, it all goes to cack.

Yep, and a lot of it is palette and experience which is a skill in itself. I've no doubt there is a tangible difference between a Niche and a Weber EG-1 but I'm confident I wouldn't be able to pick it out. One of the main things I missed out before is the improved consistency, which is...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Thanks, very content with it and fortunately have no urge to change any of it, hopefully it will all last a long time if I look after it. The coffee kit upgrade escalator seems like it can be brutal (see the chap considering a Weber in the other thread) but this thread seems more grounded with...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Given you started the thread I'm very upset by your spelling of espresso :p This is not a direct response to you but my experience of grinders over the past couple of month. I recently went from a Sage Smart Grinder Pro to a Niche and whilst it is a wonderful thing and I'm really pleased with...

    3D Printing services, any recommendations?

My Google fu is poor and I know nothing about 3D printing. I’ve found a single dosing hopper mod for my coffee grinder which I want to have made https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4666811/makes but I’ve no idea how/where/why or how much I would pay for a one off. Does anyone have any...

Fantastic to have such a detailed review of a petrol Ferrari in a thread about an EV Porsche. Top stuff.

Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

To be fair, the anniversary 991 is one of those odd ones that probably will do alright value wise. Porsche collectors love unique, and there’s lots that’s unique, wide body two wheel drive, Fuchs, one off interior. It’s still a lot of money and will still depreciate but there’s a lot to like.

I do the same, just let it sit for a bit whilst I faff about.

Sony A6600, Fuji XT 3 or?

Admittedly I avoid using it for that, but then I'm not a huge fan of 12mm for most things. I pretty much only use it on a tripod. It's great for stars too if that's your bag.

Sony A6600, Fuji XT 3 or?

I wouldn't let manual focus put you off, the focus peak mode makes it really intuitive and beyond about f/5, at 12mm, everything is in focus, it's difficult to miss :D

    Calibrating a lens

From the example you posted, the setup is delivering about what I would expect from lens. If you were close enough that the squirrel was filling the frame then you’ll get closer to your perceived goal. But you cannot crop your way to an image that mimics Andy’s. Whilst there is much you can do...

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Absolutely, if/when something fundamental breaks on the Sage it'll likely go in the bin, which obviously is not great. Hopefully the longevity will be good but the Gaggia is definitely the more robust and serviceable machine.

    Calibrating a lens

It's possible you are expecting too much from the Tamron. How much does the old 400mm f/5.6L go for now? They were always the go to 'cheap' tele with stellar image quality. You may also find that it's sharper at 250-280mm, i.e. not at maximum zoom, and cropped in, as cheaper tele zooms will...
