Sub £300 download and streaming box

Thanks. Had a quick look and there seem to be 2 versions of the Optiplex. The SFF one only seems to be able to host 1 x 2.5 and 1 x 3.5 HDD. Can’t figure out what the full tower will be able to do. Shall I take it a custom build at that price is not doable then, and a refurbed one off eBay...

Sub £300 download and streaming box

Looking to build a download box that's mainly going to be used for Usenet downloads + unpacking + streaming across the network. Idea is to get a micro or mini ATX PC which will have 1 x NVM slot for a fast boot drive, and 4 x 3.5 HDD slots (already have the drives). CPU wise - not sure what to...

New PC for £750 - no gaming requirements

Forgive my ignorance - but where would the DVI/HDMI/DP port sit if the graphics come integrated on the CPU? Is there a backplate with the dual outputs that comes with it?

New PC for £750 - no gaming requirements

Just checking the specs on the processor - does that come with integrated graphics or do I still need a separate graphics card?

New PC for £750 - no gaming requirements

That looks pretty decent though I do like the look of the 804 case as it allows me to add more hard drives in the future. Seeing as that's mATX and the motherboard in the latter spec is miniITX - do I need to choose a different one? Also - would I need to buy anything else like thermal paste...

New PC for £750 - no gaming requirements

Really like the idea of the fanless PSU and graphics card - definitely something I want to explore as I hate whiny fan noise! Also like the onboard wifi on that motherboard and an Intel chip - though I think the i3 may be too slow, as I don't plan to upgrade again for a few years or until the...

New PC for £750 - no gaming requirements

Haven't touched a desktop in over 5 years after completely switching over to laptops for both work and home, and completely out of the loop on what's good and what's not. Had been using my HP Microserver as a home PC for a while now but its just too slow for most tasks and decided to upgrade to...

MacBook Pro Retina 13" - Ram / SSD upgrade possible?

That was rather quick, thanks guys. Having a read around, that seems to be the general consensus. It’s going to be light usage mainly, with some photo editing work though nothing too taxing. I think the increased disk space to store the photos will have more value.

MacBook Pro Retina 13" - Ram / SSD upgrade possible?

About to order a MacBook Pro Retina 13inch as a gift for the missus. Looking at the base spec with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Quite tempted to double that to 16GB/256GB but the official upgrade prices are putting me off to say the least! Could someone clarify if it's possible to upgrade...

Sky friends and family deal on again

Managed to clear it up with Love Digital TV. Got confirmation in writing that the HD pack is also half price. Thanks again Misschief - saved me a wad of cash :)

Sky friends and family deal on again

Thanks Misschief - finally managed to get a code and all signed up. Went for the Sky World deal. Just one question though - is the HD pack also supposed to be half price? When selecting the pack on the Sky website, it did indicate so but on the confirmation email I just received, it has the HD...

    CPU/Mobo/Case/PSU/RAM for £300?

Any recommendations on the cooler? Also, budget is a little more flexible since I decided to stop being stingy and get what I wanted in the first place, rather than fiddling about later ;)

    CPU/Mobo/Case/PSU/RAM for £300?

Thread resurrection! For people who can be bothered to read the first post (thanks btw :) ), I've still not managed to convince myself to go AMD and have come up with the following spec. Comments.... Good/Bad? A few questions: 1. Will the CPU/Mobo combo allow me to use the onboard...

    CPU/Mobo/Case/PSU/RAM for £300?

I know I'm banging the drum here, but would upping the budget to £400 help with an Intel build?

Any further suggestions, maybe an Intel based spec ?

    CPU/Mobo/Case/PSU/RAM for £300?

Thanks for that link, just checked the spec on Gigabyte's website - and it specifically does mention HDMI/DVI-D are not supported simultaneously. Guess it was too much to ask for :( Apart from that, the motherboard does look good. Any recommendations on lowering the cost of the memory - so I...

    CPU/Mobo/Case/PSU/RAM for £300?

Not necessarily going to need 8 SATA ports to begin with. I plan to have 6 drives in there to begin with (including the boot drive), and can always add in the extra controller as needed, in the future. What I meant was, I'm not sure whether there is a suitable mobo that even exists which does...

    CPU/Mobo/Case/PSU/RAM for £300?

Thanks for the quick reply. Should have added, not totally opposed to AMD but I've always preferred to go Intel in the past and wouldn't mind doing the same again ;) Also, hopefully looking for a mobo which offers both HDMI and DVI Out. A couple of advantages to me would be having Audio and...
