    6870 - need ideas

Yeah I hate those settings ;) You're like "it's slower, it must be somehow better, I must turn it on regardless!" Maybe I'll just flog the 5770 and keep the cash. It's just a bit annoying that a 6950 costs pretty much the same as a 6870!

    6870 - need ideas

Yeah the settings are definitely higher for BFBC2, but in terms of the experience it's just not better! For instance I can now run easily with 4x AA and with the SSAO setting on. However, AA doesn't seem to do an awful lot for this game (I blame the foliage) and the framerate-killing SSAO...

    6870 - need ideas

Metro 2033. I yesterday replayed the game (latest version, patches via Steam etc). It's a bit weird in that the interiors are 40 fps+, but then there are the occasional outdoor which give 15 fps. I'm using DX11, DOF off, 1920x1200 "very high". I could run for the bulk of the game with 30-40 fps...

    6870 - need ideas

Hi guys I won a 6870 in a competition a few weeks back and have used it to replace my 5770. Even though it was free, it's still not giving as much oomph as I was kind of hoping - when I upgrade I like to get at least 2x as fast. I'm considering flogging the 5770 and getting a second 6870...

£70 payg credit but they wont give it back

I could never get O2 to refund credit from PAYG nor transfer it to another PAYG account, really annoying. Phone em up, "it can't be done!"

    6950 x2 or 6990 or Wait?

X = Cross. A bit like Xmas (Christmas) and hot X (cross) buns, and people called Christina who spell it Xtina...ahh! In summary Xfire=Crossfire.

Something to eyeball - 6950 xfire scaling with different PCIe link speeds: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/pci-express-scaling-p67-chipset-gaming-performance,review-32164.html

Fancy Cache - High Performance - Reduced writes (Trim, No redundant writes) - Good by 'Write Amplifi

Doesn't Windows do this already? By default doesn't it suck up all your spare RAM as a write-through cache - eg in the task manager for me under physical memory it says that 3.8 GB is being used as cached for me. And if you select the "turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing" check box in...

    PC-Q11 Build: "Fanboy Folly"

How much do you reckon this thing costs, if you'd just bought all the bits (no trying other HSFs, etc). Oh and not with an expensive X6? ;)

Does anyone here still use a single core pc?

Haha that was also before we started seeing posts on here like "I can only see X cores in the task manager, where are the other ones?" :D

Does anyone here still use a single core pc?

Beginning reading this, I was convinced my gf's dog-slow laptop was single core...no, dual core! Just not enough RAM and a super-slow HD :) Surprisingly my first dual core...was actually in my iPod Mini! I programmed them and they were indeed dual core. Just not cache coherent, which was a...

    History of FPS games

Wowza, I can't believe how many of those I've played! Very cool to see how much progression there has been in the visuals over the years. Watching the Quake 1+2 intro movies really made me remember how much of my life I wasted watching those intros writing these ports :)...

    Dead Space 2 who's buying?

Gf's getting it for me for my birthday :) I'll be getting PC version so I can hammer quick save as I play since I'm a wuss! I played both Dead Space 1 on both PC and PS3 and the difference between general load times was like night and day! I hope it supports the 360 pad again though, and...

Would you baptise your child - school

What did you and your wife do when you got married, if you're not religious? Do you do the church thing (which as you say would be hypocritical) or do it some other way? Surely what you did then would apply to your child's baptism?

    Bang per buck

Yeah I'm always impressed just how those engineers can improve things and trounce the hard work they put into last years products :) It's a bit like those Persil adverts where they compare new Persil against last year's Persil and the shirts coming out of the wash are covered in marks and blood...

***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

I got my copy today. I played a number of tracks on arcade...and found it pretty boring. I'm thinking about returning it, but have decided to give it another shot. Sure it's pretty to look at but the sound track is awful and the presentation is a bit too retro (how do I find out the controller...

Does winxp count v/c mem as system memory

The GPU driver does not map the entire 1GB of VRAM into the 32-bit address space - it will only use a small window of the 32-bit address space (eg 200MB) and then map in parts of the VRAM which the CPU wants to communicate with. It's a kind of window scheme. For instance, if the driver wants...

Fermi mid-life kicker comes in 40nm

There's so little content in the link posted...do they just make this stuff up? "NVIDIA will probably attempted to compete with a future AMD product. This is all we know at the moment" Good work guys!
