Update. Unplugged the card reader (has no drivers) that the case came with and booted ok, UT3 now seems to be fixed. But my boot up time is very slow, spending ages on the splash screen.

Arrrg, all seemed so well. My graphics card was getting HOT (80 idle 105 in furmark) so i opened up and have cabled tied a fan blowing hot air out of the PCI slots (helping the GFX heatsink). This has solved the temperature problem. But i'm still getting stalling at the windows "splash screen"...
