New bike time - 2013 Triumph Explorer

I love the look of the 'new' Tigers, just waiting for them to filter down to my price point used :p I was chatting to a bloke with an 800 who didn't rate it much, so glad to hear you like yours!

Saw this when out and about with work today. Badged as "Fiesta Monster" :D

My 2 day mini tour of Wales - Thoughts

I planned to do something similar in August; throw my tent on the back and crash at Llanberis for a spell mid week (camp site right across the road from the pub :D). So cheers for the route maps and descriptions. Nice to have a few pointers but you haven't ruined the surprise ;) And the M4...

Gorgeous new DBS, looked like it had uprated brakes too (massive black 'Aston' callipers, or is that standard?). Was a very smart new M3 parked alongside when I left as well.

F-Type S Coupe Absolutely spotless, and quite something in the flesh. Can't fault the driver for leaving it under a lamp-post miles away from everyone else either :D

Top Gear Season 22 & Xmas Special

I gather it was probably 'Rype Village' at Lydd. The place fairly screams "NI Training Area". Explains why they were basically doing laps of the same place, which was very noticeable.

    Sheepskin seat cover

Real sheepskin still has a lot of the oils and stuff in it that kept the sheep that used to own it dry, so they shed water really easily. :D

    Sheepskin seat cover

I was in my local Ikea today (Saturday; mistake) and noticed they had their black sheepskin rugs discounted down to £15. I have a 'proper' sheepskin seat cover which is exactly the same, only half the size and nearer twice the cost! Cant recommend them enough. Very comfortable in all...

Going for full bike licence but..

That's crazy, my Versys is only ~60bhp but would be more than enough bike for any learner. Guess the EU is saying I'm not man enough for my A license :D They do seem to have a real sad-on for bikes, thankfully it looks like there was a rare instance of common sense in government and they gave...

Ride around the world - what bike?

Whilst others have pointed out that may have been overloading, yer man Oisin Hughes had a fair few issues with his (if you haven't seen "Not dead yet", I recommend it) which couldn't be chalked up to that. Although that bike wasn't a shiny new promotional freebie. Aren't the Army Harleys...

Full vs Flip Helmets and Glasses

I have a Shark Evoline and am happy to accept the trade-off against a normal helmet (weight, noise, risk) for the comfort & convenience. I always take it on/off with the chin bar open. Comes off without needing to remove specs and I just hold them in my mouth when I put it on. Never had any...

maybe moving from 125cc 2 stroke to a 400cc four stroke, thoughts?

I went from a baby Vara to a Versys 650. About a five/six-fold increase in power :D It's not an issue if you can keep your head. If the insurance is reasonable then why not?

What did you do to your bike today?

Glad you're allright, hope it all comes back to you! Don't think I'd like not knowing what happened... Nice little present when I got home; bunch of bits for the Versys from MotoWerks in the states. Comes wrapped as it's a "gift", see... Looking forward to lower pegs and wider mirrors...

    Post Mod-2 bike recommendation

I started on a Versys (same engine, tuned differently). Loving it so far, plenty of go without being insane, very forgiving as long as you keep your head. As mentioned, CC isn't all that great an indicator. I think a Hornet has something like nearly twice the HP as the Versys on paper .

    Bike Mount

Anything that will fit onto a RAM ball mount. Plenty of cases around, I have a generic Bags-Connection one (SW-Motech) that's not bad, but you can only use the screen with gloves if it's wet :p. Good if you want to be able to use any old phone or GPS in there though.

Bikers beware, the HGV's "Blind Spot"

There were a fair few questions on it when I did my bike theory last year, mostly around trucks turning; what their behaviour might be and why they may not see you (Especially when turning left). More than I remember there being on my car one. Tend to give big things a wide berth whether on...

What did you do to your bike today?

Baby Vara refused to start for a viewer today, which was embarrassing :( Battery had come off the charger a few hours previously and started fine then. Shows 12.4~v when I put the meter on it, but won't start the bike. Put the meter on the bike and it's showing 0.5/0.6v across the leads with...

    Flip up helmets...

I have an Evoline2 and like it a lot. I'm a speccy git so the tradeoffs (weight, noise etc.) are worth it for me. Wish I hadn't seen the stats now though, 70% chance of staying closed at best. Still, I've met 2 instructors that wear them so can't be that bad...

*** Show us your bikes! ***

Baby Varas are pricey, there's no way around it as they don't sell them here any more. £1500 is the book price for that age, might get as much as £2k out of a dealer and a little more privately if it's in good nick. (I'm in the process of selling myself, and that was my experience so far.)...

*** Show us your bikes! ***

Just arrived :D off the back of a Ute-style pickup, which was a bit unexpected and somewhat dicey getting it down... Starting to look like a dealer's outside my house too. Well it's not raining so i'm off out :p Edit: As soon as I turned the key in the bike it began hailing so hard car alarms...
