    Nexus 7 Removable Storage

I understand that it is only possible to mount an external drive if you root the device first, apparently it is also possible to do USB-to-Ethernet (not sure how that works..?). Got mine on pre-order but no sign of it arriving yet, seem to be shipping in the states. I'm gonna chance a brief...

The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

You're not supposed to actually use it as a phone ;)! [I have to agree, my 8 year old Nokia sounded much "sharper"]

The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Works fine here. I did find it got very unresponsive once, and when I was in I checked the task manager and it turned out an app was using 100% cpu. Was fine once I killed the app.

The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

From memory, it looks like the one on the far left? It was longer and flatter than the many little usb cables I have strewn on my floor. Oh, and I answered my question on essential android apps! One last question then... Anyone know how to turn the camera shutter noise off? !!

The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Got mine at the weekend, my first phone in 8 years - wow, a colour screen! I've always been a tech fan but just don't really use a phone much. But for £99 PayG I barely got to the end of the review before wanting to buy one! Have to say I have not been dissapointed. It does everything I...

    Samsung NC10

To answer a question further up, there is no 3G model available right now but it is likely to follow soon. I have heard that a version has been confirmed for next year but I havent seen it from an official source yet. You can see my pictures on my flickr page...

    Samsung NC10

I should have known there would be a juicy NC10 thread over here! I look forward to reading through and find out what peeps have been up to! I got my NC10 last week and have been posting some stuff up on a Samsung NC10 blog. I think someone must have linked to it already as I can see...

8400 Wolfies are in stock :-)

agreed, shame, the attraction of the e8400 for me is the price. Id prob be prepared to pay a little more to get one today as I have all my components except the cpu. But not that much more. I'm sure they will sell as nowhere else has them right now. And boy have I looked ;)!

    Wolfdale Ramblings. . .

Good luck to 'em they are running a business. Peeps will always vote with their feet - im sure they know what they are doing. Back to the previous discussion, the E2160 doesnt really hold much interest. Surely you have to compare like for like. A stock E8400 is going to be better than a...

    Is my E8400 a dud?

    Quad vs Dual in UT3?

yeah i posted a quote from the Epic devs in a few of the dual vs quad threads. Essentially it runs 2 main threads and then there are a number of helper threads that will run on core 3 and 4 if you have them. There are actually a lot of games on the way using the Unreal 3 Engine so this...

    Virtualisation

not sure, but don't the new 45nm chips contain some kind of virtualisation instruction set? Must admit that I love virtualisation. Great way of having portable development environments set up. This is actually a big driver towards upgrading my machine - makes a change from gaming forcing...

Intel 45nm mainstream quad core comes in March

bah, im not sure I can wait that long for Quad 45nm goodness. I may just grab a E8400. Anything will be better than my rusty socket 754 chip! But it seems E8400s are hard to come by too, any news on when they will be readily available?

why buy a dual core when quads are available?

Thought it was worth adding this to the mix, the gamers might want to check it out. Or not. The unreal 3 engine used by many games out, or coming out this year can use 4 cores... Epic's Tim Sweeney explains:

Supreeme Commander - Dual Core Vs Quad Core?

Also, anything based on the Unreal 3 engine gets good gains on 4 cores, but after 4 apparently it tails off. So if you like UT3 etc, might be worth investigating? Epic's Tim Sweeney explains: Personally im a bang for bucks kinda guy but having used a quad at work I just love how...

why buy a dual core when quads are available?

yeah, i notice my (work bought) quads are often all active doing different things. File indexing, a virus scan, I dont really know. How reliable is the task manager processor usage thingy? It certainly shows a lot of activity! I think the other point in defence of quads is that i do recall...

    Quad core or Wolfdale

It also depends what you compare with what. I seem to remember Toms hardware doing some benchies of the last gen of chips and the quad cores did out perform the dual cores even in single thread apps. But for the extra £100s it clearly wasnt worth it for such a small increase in performance if...

    New Intel Processors Announced

I agree, but this case is not so clear cut. I think it can be argued that the 9450 will be good value and most people do seem to agree that this chip hits a good spot - depending on final UK price of course! Now if someone had bought one of the current top quad cores for closer to £1000 then...

    how many hdd's

Id suggest googling something like "is raid 0 worth it". Some pretty careful testing suggests no, and for some users it can actually slow you down depending what you do. Best read for yourself.

Is this a worthwhile "Bang for Buck" CPU Upgrade for Games

I always find "small" upgrades a bit of a disapointment. You might see a small improvement but it wont suddenly allow you to play next gen games. Id put the cash in a pot and save for a next gen system. The choice is yours :)!
