    Championship/EFL Thread 23/24

A boring routine 3-0 home win for the saints tonight, just what the doctor ordered. Still don’t see us making top two especially with the last day away at Leeds and our goalkeeper being on crutches but keeps it interesting!

    Dragonfire on UK warships

Fortunately even if our government were so disgusting as to agree with you I don’t think you’d find a single officer willing to carry out the order.

Fears Sadiq Khan will bring in pay-per-mile road taxes after spending £3m on project

I was going to say, try using public transport in any other city in the country and you will suddenly realise just how good you've got it! Yes the tube maybe a bit old and dirty and the buses don't bend anymore but it is in a different world.

Fears Sadiq Khan will bring in pay-per-mile road taxes after spending £3m on project

Car ownership is growing faster than the population so it must be too cheap for a huge swathe of the population.

Fears Sadiq Khan will bring in pay-per-mile road taxes after spending £3m on project

The number of cars on uk roads is still growing at a rate greater than the population so they are clearly too cheap to buy and too cheap to run. People willl only give up cars if they are unafordable and what ever powers them the environmental impact of making, running and disposing of cars is...

    Uber Eats - Driver Insurance

The gig economy is such a black hole for bad employment practice it would be nice if the government took it even vaguely seriously but now they are fixated on headline grabbing dinghies and won’t risk upsetting people by making food delivery cost what it actually should to give people a real wage!

    Clutch + Flywheel cost opinion?

I was going to say something similar, I drove mine until it started to properly crumble, the terminal symptom was the car getting hard to start as the bits of the flywheel get stuck in the starter motor. Garages typically replace all three when doing it as it is the labour that is most...

    Taiwan and China thread.

Agreed if western nations started openly back Taiwan’s independence it is a slap in the face to China who would inevitably have to respond and it is a war that benefits nobody.

    Mortgage Rate Rises

For those numbers I agree you’re not going to see a great deal of difference no matter what you do. My mortgage is sat at 1.25% and my savings are at 5.1% so I won’t be making any over payments just now!

plan for collapse of Thames Water

I don’t remember the state run water boards putting 57bn that could have been invested in the network into the pockets of private investors, maybe I was to young to benefit from that hand out!

    Mortgage Rate Rises

Seems faintly ridiculous to me, every lender we have been with has given us the choice between reducing the term or the monthly payment in the back of over payments the idea you have to jump through a load of hoops seems so antiquated but then that pretty much sums up the Halifax anyway (life...

plan for collapse of Thames Water

The combined debt of all water companies is I believe roughly the same as the combined dividend payout of all water companies (Thames have paid out approximately half the amount in dividends, but then think how much smaller there debt could be if they didn’t spend a quarter of their revenue...

plan for collapse of Thames Water

It is, the combined debt of the privatised water companies is almost exactly the same as the combine dicidends paid since privatisation, no water company paying a dividend should be allowed to significantly increase bills doubly so if they are failing in their basic duties.

This is why people are losing respect for the police...

For a charge of murder intent to kill is sufficient.

You can guarantee they will pass that cut onto savers quicker than borrowers if/when it comes!

    TV on a budget

Amusingly I’m in negotiations for a 46” Panasonic plasma aiming to bring in well under £100 so a decent upgrade in screen size and an improvement in picture over the current 37” plasma that’s ’only’ 720p! Just need to bring the owner round to my way of thinking on price!

Does something need to be done about dogs?

The parents should probably be facing a charge of neglect, I wouldn't leave a toddler alone in a room with that dog and certainly wouldn't let it climb on it! Like you say parents should be incredibly cautious around any dog with a small child but the injuries are likely to be much less severe...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

Trailer looked ok to me! I’m not thinking Andor good but it definitely looked ok! I’m not sure how people can make such sweeping judgements based on a short trailer!

What to replace a hedge with?

I like a hedge something nice about a green boarder, it it isn’t hideous conifers then you should be able to butcher it right back and have it regrow a more manageable size! If it is conifers then get rid quick! If you decide to go fencing you have loads of options from the classic wooden post...

Pension fund performance - do you monitor yours, how is it doing, do you actively change it?

I noticed the Islamic fun seemed to have performed exceptionally over the last 5 years, it has slightly higher fees but if it maintained its performance it would more than make up for that. The generic growth fund I’m in is all equities and mostly US and the performance over the last year since...
