    New Build Advice

To be honest, I don't foresee my requirements going that far beyond what they are now. The 2700X with a good chunk of RAM would see me right for a pretty long time, and should be more than enough for me to do a bit of work on. Looking at the TR4 boards, and the 1920X, they're all out of stock or...

    New Build Advice

Cheers mate, appreciate you putting that together. Hardware really isn't my thing, so I'm going to ask a really dumb question - what is the benefit of that particular motherboard over some of the AM4 ones that I've seen around the 150 quid mark (obviously paired with a Ryzen chip)?

And also, storage wise, I don't need a huge disk. I've seen 250GB SSDs on here for around 60 quid-ish. That should do fine for me.

    New Build Advice

I'll be keeping my current display. In terms of budget, I don't really want to go over 1200 quid. :)

    New Build Advice

Hey Chaps So, I want to build a new machine - I've been a long time laptop user but it spends all of its life on a dock, and I want something with more grunt and less noise, but will get more for my money by going down the desktop route, I guess. I'm a developer and I don't really game (casual...

6 points & £200 fine for phone while driving going live today

If you can't be arsed to pay attention whilst driving, then don't drive. If you're looking down at a screen, you're not looking at the road. The penalty should be greater, in my opinion.

    Something's wrong here

I don't come here often these days, I've never posted an awful lot, either, but I am a long time lurker. Something seems to be wrong with the look of the forum. I'm not sure whether it's me or the site?

Applying for a job, but writing informally

That was pretty much my thinking at the time of writing! Also, for reference, the company is Google. The informal tone just seemed appropriate.

Applying for a job, but writing informally

I've just applied for a job online and felt compelled to write the cover note in an informal style / tone. My note was candid and succinct; it felt much more natural than the usual robotic, cliched drivel that I may normally be inclined to write. What's everyone's take on using informal...

Use Sky dish with twin cable for single Freesat HD card

Thanks for all the input, Chaps. Managed to source the correct fitting from the local Maplin store, and it works a treat now. :)

    Good web domain service?

Avoid 1and1. I registered a new domain with them recently and have since been spammed to death (email & phone) by every man and his dog wanting to do design work or SEO for me. Didn't realise that they sold details on to third parties, must have missed that in the T&Cs.

Thanks for that. I better go and hunt down a connector.

Use Sky dish with twin cable for single Freesat HD card

Thanks for the replies, guys. All I've done thus far is push the centre core into the female connector on my card. Should the shielding part be making contact also?

Use Sky dish with twin cable for single Freesat HD card

Hi Guys My house has a Sky dish installed and it has the twin cable stuff (I think it is used for Sky+ / Sky HD). Does anyone know if it is possible to utilise just a single core on this twin cable? Will it work, or do both cores have to be connected? The cable connectors have been cut...

Touchpad scroll & navigation gesture problem

Actually just to expand on this, as it seems like a certain sequence of steps is triggering the behaviour: Click a link on a page. Once the link has loaded, scroll down with the two-finger up (ooer) gesture. Return to the previous page with the two-finger to the right gesture. Immediately try...

Touchpad scroll & navigation gesture problem

In the browser when scrolling up and down, I seem to more frequently trigger a backwards or forwards navigation gesture by mistake. This is only something that seems to have surfaced since I had upgraded to Mavericks. I've used my rMBP happily for the last 2 or so years without this issue...
