Yes my Seagate (3GB) HDD has just died this lunch time. The bits on that drive are lost forever :( There were some documents on there (which I will have to search for now to see if I have copies). My fault for not having a back up system in place :( I'm purchasing 2 Hitachi drives now...

You could also use a program called MobileEdit to copy the messages to xml/text files as well.
