    1200p/1080p gaming on 1440p monitor?

It would be native for normal day-to-day use, just gaming I am worried about.

    1200p/1080p gaming on 1440p monitor?

Hi, I am looking to upgrade by current 24in 1920x1200 monitor to a 27in 2560x1440. The problem, is i'm not sure my GPU currently a AMD 7850 will be handle playing at native res. Would I lose noticeable image quality simply going for a higher res monitor, but using it non-native res...

Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Is anyone running Plex (both the client and the server) on the N40L? Is it powerful enough to run both? I am hoping it wouldn't be doing any transcoding as all playback would be local using GPU acceleration for playback? Such as an AMD 6450?

New GPU for with a Q6600

Ok, i've currently got a Q6600 running at stock, and an HD4850. Looking to upgrade the card for BF3, what's the best you think I could get away with before the CPU becomes an issue with bottlenecking the newer cards? The CPU has been running at 3.6Ghz as was watercooled (but not anymore)...

    SSD Questions

The other thing you might want to bare in mind is you don't want to fill any SSD much more than 80%, otherwise, you'll get performance issues.

    SSD Questions

When you actually install Win 7, although it requires 14GB for the install, it will 'only' use about 8GB once finished. You could also put things like the page file on to a normal HDD if you have one (especially if you have plenty of RAM).

Sandforce SF1200 firmware will be downgraded..

I guess you could argue in this case, it's more an artificial limitation than with GPUs/CPUs which are speed binned. Intel etc separate components by their speed rated at a specific TDP, or don't quite make the cut to become a more expensive part, so there are actual physical differences.

Help Please WD Carviar Black -Re Allocation Sector Count

I'd only really be worried if the sector count keeps increasing, ideally a full format and should give you a true value (and mark any bed sectors of the drive and replace them with backup sectors, which is all the sector count is telling you). It's normally only a bad sign if the sector count...

    Western Digital WD1600AAJS XP Compatibility.

I had an issue with a 500GB WD a while back where it would not work on a SATA 150 controller if it's running in SATA 300 mode or would play up. There should be a jumper option to force the drive to SATA 150, so see if this solves your problem. If your mobo is that old anyway, you won't notice...

    Hard Drive Dying?

One thing to learn about drives is they are more likely to fail early on in their life (1st yr) or much later on (3yrs+) and vary rarely in the middle (i.e. 1-3 years). In this case, sounds like it could be an early failure, so best to get it backed up whilst you can. Another option is to...

    Help partitioning Hard Disk

That will depend on the image software being used. I think it can be done with Acronis True Image, but not sure. Normally though you wouldn't back up just programs, you'd do those along with the Windows install as well.

    Decisions, Decisions, what to buy...

Really performance between all 3 drives will not be significantly noticeable in realworld use. It will mainy come down to price/personal preference.

    Help partitioning Hard Disk

You have 2 options to do this without losing your existing windows install. You will either want software to create an image/backup of your existing windows partition (D:), and then delete both to create a single large one, and you can then just re-image the larger partition. The second...

    Raid 5 vs Raid 10

Ah well in that case, then yes Raid 10 will be faster than Raid 1, but as the price difference between 750GB drives and 1TB is fairly small, you may want to get 4 of those instead and as you said cost is not a problem. The other thing you have to bare in mind is you won't be able to upgrade to...

    RAID

What kind of Raid are you looking for, 0 or 1? Ideally, you should try to use your motherboard RAID if you can, as will be much better than Window's own RAID.

    Raid 5 vs Raid 10

THe only issue with Raid 5 is that if one drive dies, the performance drops off massively, another option is to try Raid 3, though controller cards might be more expensive for this, but the benefit is performance doesn't degrade if a drive dies. Raid 10 would be ideal I guess. Are these drives...

best hard rives for RAID0 boot disks ?

In this case, you'd be better off going a bit higher in size (and they won't really cost much more) as the larger drives will have a higher platter density, so you'll get better performance out of them. i.e. for an extra £3-4 per drive you can easily get nearly 4 times the storage space, even...

    Quick RAID question (server 2008)

Yep, if you've already setup raid in the BIOS, there's no reason (and would likely cause issues) if you set it up in windows as well using the same drives.

Trnasferring hard drive to new PC?

In theory it will work as Windows 7 should at least pickup all the new hardware. If it doesn't you'll need to re-install.
