just built my i5 pc and im using the freezer2. running 4.1ghz @ 1.35v, idle is about 40-42C, 20mins prime95 will rocket that up to about 79C accross all cores, doesnt go higher after that though. playing gta4 for 30mins gave me a max high of 69C, WoW for 2 hours took the one core it used up to...

hmm, i think i bought the wrong ram, the place i bought it listed it as 12800C9 1600MHz, it didnt say it was 1.8v rated, i didnt realise there were so many types of ddr3, just assumed it would work with i5. But i reckon i need the 1.6v stuff. anyway, ordered some g.skill, prblem solved

thanks guys. Ive never had ram that wont run at stock speeds, even unbranded cheapo stuff usually overclocks a little, and with a name like 'dominator' you'd at least expect stock performance ! cant help thinking that maybe im doing something wrong.. i did notice the ram said 1.8v on it...

cant even run at 1600 with slack timings, just will not run at 1600 or above. duff ram?

hi all (i5, gigabyte p55ud3, corsair 12800 2x2gb) i went for cheap corsair 1600mhz CAS9 ram. im wondering if its best to run at 1600mhz (200 2:8) or maybe drop to 1200mhz and tighter timings? havent had much time to play so not actually sure how much(if any) i can improve timings at 1600.

well thats not quite true, as i have said there would be a couple of fans blowing over the board. i had the antec 900 as my last case, fairly respectable cooling, but even that would drop the ambient and cpu temp a few degrees when i removed the side. in my experience, my pc cases never...

will update my list: pros: would save money, save space, should run cooler than any case, i like little 'projects'. cons: will look like poo someone might lick the components! hehe, fair point i suppose

yeh i was thinking about that: the cooling aspect i would like to think would be improved as theres no enclosed space for heat to build up, the heat can just rise off the board, even well ventilated cases seem to contain warmer than ambient air in my experience, especially with modern gfx cards...

So i was thinking of buying a new case.. and then i thought about the possible merits of mounting the whole PC on a flat board of some kind. Along the lines of butchering a cheap case i have and cutting out the mb mounting plate and upright section behind the cards to secure sound/gfx, etc...

Ok, so this is the newer sapphire 4850, with improved cooling, and it comes on a smaller pcb. The problems i have are that i cant seem to overclock the card using the BIOS mods with RBE and winflash, ie, i edit the bios, flash it, check with gpu-z/CCC and it either makes no visible difference...
