I've been clocking the core independant to the shader on my 8600gt.. however i cant seem to exceed 675mhz! Even 676mhz wont save using riva tuner... as soon as press ok it drops back to 675mhz. Any ideas on that one?
Sweet.. cheers for all the replies.. removed the ihs in the end. temps dropped by almost 10 deg and both cores are now within a few degrees of each other.
There was definately poor contact between the ihs and cores as could be seen by the distinct lack of thermal compound stuff in the centre...
i had simmilar problems with a recently purchased 3800+... i just gave up trying to work out what was wrong and reinstalled the OS.. only i upgraded to Vista and have had no bsod or hanging issues so far!! :)

Hello all, I just recently bought an Athlon 64 X2 3800 to replace my single core Opty (CPU-Z screenshot below).
Now the thing is I’m having trouble working out what’s going on with the temps on the X2. It would appear that one core is running hotter than the other both whilst idle AND under...
Ditto... though i think he generally raises some very good points ;)
IMO the ati v nvidia rivalry is something i suspect will be ongoing... likely to for as long as either produce graphics cards.

3DMARK 2005

Forgot to add... im chuffed with my 8600gt... some modest overclocks.. one zalman cooler later and im happy (tho the stock cooler probably would have been fine but i went to an element of looks as well as performance). I'm beating my mates score in 3dmark and the like (who runs a x1950 in a...
X1950PRO < 8600GT!
Currently nvidia have really smartened things up over the latest driver releases.. its improved perfomance significantly over the drivers which many of these so called "reviews" on the internet have used.
Agree with a valid point by 555BUK .. that those who slate the...
my card looks like this one... so if by bridge chip you meant the one under the heatsink in the top corner of the card then yes!

right.. back to the ot... an update.. cooler arrived.. fit fine with no problems using the recommended mount holes for the 7 series cards.. plenty of space... hsi heatsink caused no issues whatsoever... temps on the oc'ed 8600gt ive attached it to are hectic... almost a 20 degree drop on load...
Could anyone confirm if the Zalman VF900 cooler will fit an 8600GT card.... particularly an "OcUK GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) Stock Code: GX-058-OK".
Anyone fitted on to other 8600gt's... what were the results.
Ta :)
