    noob gigabit network question

Should be: 7pcs and router connected to switch, modem connected to router. And we want the wired network cos the house is pretty big, and has old well-built walls, wireless would be a nightmare. We might aswell make it gigabit as a switch only costs like £40.

    noob gigabit network question

hmm i was thinking 1 port for each pc (7) plus one port for the router. router's WAN port is then connected to the modem. I assume an 8 port switch would work

    noob gigabit network question

Right there are 7 of us moving into a student house and between us were going to pay for an electrician to run ethernet cables from the 7 bedroom and the living room into the attic, so we can have a gigabit network between ourselves. Now because of the lack of an 8-port gigabit router (as far as...

    What happened to the Xonar?

The apparently x-fi destroying Xonar was announced at cebit or something but since then I havent heard anything about it. Does anyone know what happened to it, if theres a release date and price yet? It would be useful to be able to put a decent (not xtreme audio) soundcard in a pci-e x1 slot.

Closing applications from the command line

I kind of mean instead of killing the process (TASKKILL), I'd rather send it the message that I would like it to close, so it has time to "finish up" whatever it was doing, like when you just click the x to close a program, instead of going to task manager and killing it.

Closing applications from the command line

Thanks for the relpies, that pstools thing looks kind of interesting. Does anyone know of a "safe shutdown" command I could use though?

Closing applications from the command line

And literally minutes after writing that post I discover the TASKKILL command, now my file looks like: START E:\"Program Files"\Winstick\Winstick.exe START E:\"Program Files"\Winamp\winamp.exe PAUSE TASKKILL /im winamp.exe TASKKILL /im winstick.exe Just wondering if taskkill...

Closing applications from the command line

This is probably really simple, but I googled for about 40mins and found nothing useful. Maybe im really bad a googling, who knows. Anyway, I have written a hilariously simple file to replace my winamp shortcut with this "openwinamp.cmd": START E:\"Program Files"\Winstick\Winstick.exe...

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 vs AMD Athlon 64 4000+

you won't notice much difference between the 3800 and the 4000, only difference is the cache size, which might give you an extra 2fps in some games, it realy doesn't affect much. downside of ignoreing conroe for now and going with the cheap A64s is that they are only single core. Might not...

What's the best £150 or less processor

    A64 4000 or A64 X2 3800? (Athlon 64 4000 only £95 @ OcUK)

If its "just a toy", I would really go for the 4000. It is cheap, and you will have more fun overclocking it, plus dual core at the moment is only really useful in pro applications. Yeah you can encode an mp3 while playing CS but who really ever does that, a vastly overclocked 4000 will be well...

google: HP - VGA cable - DVI-D (M) - HD-15 (M) does this look like it might do the trick?

another annoying question - dvi-d to vga adaptor

another annoying question - dvi-d to vga adaptor

I assure you this is the last in a string of annoying questions, but, i have discovered that the notebook i just ordered has only got a DVI-D output. I was kind of hoping to be able to plug it into my overly huge 21" crt monitor for watching tv/dvds etc, which has a vga cable. Now I know DVI-D...

Is yonah socket compatable with merom?

I have just ordered me a laptop with a shiny new yonah resting within. The laptops cpu was customisable on ordering, which leads me to strongly believe that it will be socketed, not soldered onto the mobo. So, if it is socketed, will it be interchangable with merom in the future? I know there...

Can somone recommend me a laptop so I dont buy a Mac

No that's Core2duo, the next one. Core "1" Duo was yonah, 32bit. Core 2 Duo is Conroe and Merom, 64bit with various other enhancements.

Can somone recommend me a laptop so I dont buy a Mac

Haha sweet, I've just discovered the custom shell paint on the zepto site. It would rule to have a laptop with some sordid giger pic or banksy art on the back.

Can somone recommend me a laptop so I dont buy a Mac
