Hi, hopefully you're up and running now but I've just done Strix 790-h and 13700k. I'm seeing the same 10 degrees difference between cpu and package temps.
Looking at various monitoring programs the low figure seems to be an average including the pcores and ecores. The high figure is worst case...
I went low mid range 790 rather than high mid range 690 because I need 64gb ram minimum. I'm thinking that when faster 2 x 48gb kits become available then the newer chipset might get more support.
It's not a new thing, and there are a lot of variables. Bought a binned celeron 300a from here a long time ago and couldn't get close to the advertised speed with my setup.
My 10700K was tapped out at +100mhz, the 13700k I just bought is boosting to +500 Pcore and +200 Ecore on the same...
There's definitely a lot of metal hanging off the board and not a lot of clearance in places. On the upside the temps are good. Doing up the top left thumbscrew on the cpu block was - fun.
Luckily I don't have a fan in the back of the case, running top and front radiators as exhaust with the...
It is, also seems some of the things I assumed to be true aren't any longer.
The CPU can make a difference to games even at 4K, rendering times can improve slightly with a better CPU even though the GPU claimed to be running flat out before and at least with FH5 it loads a lot quicker off a...
Game dependant, some things were definitely being strangled by the old setup. As JediFragger suggested 20%+ with some outliers at 50%.
Noticeable improvement in lows and general smoothness. GPU utilization is up across the board. As an example God Of War with everything maxed and DLSS quality...
His crowning achievment is pushing RTX onto board partners, reviewers and gamers so that they could pretend that they were doing us a favour when they were always building a rendering/AI platform.
No probs, for reference I was hitting mid 50s core and high 70s ram with an average loop running at 40c water temp split between gaming and rendering. Did high 60s core and upto 102 ram on the stock cooler on air.
I had a corsair block on a 3090FE. I seem to remember that the backplate was 2 slots the rest was one and a smidge. Even with the vertical 12 pin it would fit in a 2 slot space without issue.
I think we're going to have to agree to disagree.
I'm sure that we've both considered all the options and backed that up with our own money. Both sides have their good and bad points and we could get locked into a spiral of person maths and copium.
More importantly; - how many cats do you live...
Everyone has different needs. Any current mid tier CPU would cover my current and near future gaming requirements.
What I need most is single threaded app performance, believe it or not a lot of apps have terrible multi threading support for the CPU bound parts of the workflow. The parts that...
Cool surname.
I've had a much better experiance with a quest 2 using virtual desktop and wireless rather than the native wired or wireless options. Maybe ask in the VR forum.
He's not wrong. I've just had to buy a mid tier board to get some features that I wanted which could have been included on a low end board.
Wanted temp sensor, bios flashback, M2 latches, PCIe release button and colour coded rear audio jacks.
Ended up buying the cheapest Strix board I could...
50/50 split gaming and rendering/editing. The 12400 is used solely for couch gaming.
The 13700k is to replace a 10700k which is in the process of crapping the bed in all sorts of interesting ways. CPU refusing to boost above 800mhz unless manually clocked, PCIe speed dropping to 1x until...
I've got a 12400 and with a cheap tower cooler and a p12 fan and some mx4 I had lying about it sits at about 50c while gaming with the fan at <600rpm. Not hard to cool. Only issue was it wouldn't run 4 sticks of 8gb 3200 DDR4 that I allready had in XMP mode without dropping the memory controller...
Non PC stuff - then
486 DX2 66
Pentium 133
Pentium 200 MMX
Celeron 300a
Athlon X2 4800
Q6600
4790K
10700K
12400 to make another PC with the bits I had from upgrades
So my next one should be 16 core / 32 thread but most of what I do now only stresses the GPU so it probably won't be.
