    build assistance

I've decided to add a little bit more money to this as I'm expecting a bonus pay packet this month, and in retrospect I'm unlikely to upgrade the machine for several years (other than to add a new GPU when they are more sensibly priced). I get the impression DDR5 isn't going to add much to this...

    build assistance

I think the motherboard might be on its last legs generally. It fails to start from cold and seems to need a bit of a warm up to get going, otherwise I would have considered a quickfix. I can't remember exactly when I built the PC, but motherboard is an X99S SLI PLUS (MS-7885) which was released...

my laptop has 64GB and I'm accustomed to using lots of it... 32GB would be the minimum I would consider. Good to know I can save some money on DDR4

    build assistance

Fairly painful, but I could upgrade in stages. The main reason for upgrading is that my wife uses the PC 1 day a week when she works from home. The USB ports on the motherboard are slowly dying 1 by 1 to the point where if another one goes, it will be a headache for me. Also there's some...

I haven't set any fixed budget. I'd prefer to stick closer to 1k than 3k, but that may be unrealistic

Long time overclocker... long time out of the game :) My current rig is on its last legs and well overdue an upgrade. I need something that can play games (usually FPS but potentially some race sim in future) with a reasonable framerate on a 27" monitor, it also needs to be VR ready for my sons...

    Build help

I'm looking for some help to spec a midi or micro PC to sit either on a desk, or (if viable these days with tech running cooler) inside a vented cupboard. I used to be an avid overclocker, but for the last 10 years I've been too busy and lately I have no real concept of the modern PC build. The...

    IP35 Pro will not post

Thanks for the advice, I am borrowing a PSU from a server at work next week to see if that helps. I removed the power and battery and reset the cmos leaving it for 24hrs + and I still see the same errors. Powering the board on without the CPU gives me an 8.7 error "Check CPU core voltage"...

    IP35 Pro will not post

Damn... that explains the lack of response! Any tips on how to get the data off the RAID array? I've found a new IP35 Pro on eBay for £90 delivered, but it is a lot of money to be thrown away when I am planning to downsize the PC in a couple of months anyway!

    IP35 Pro will not post

I have an Abit IP35 Pro (has run fine for over 2 years) which is now not posting. I put the machine to sleep as usual and seemingly randomly it did not turn back on. It is powered and the motherboard codes cycle from 8.0 through to 9.9 each time I press the power button. The fans start for a...

    Photoshop resize script assitance

Brilliant! Thanks whitecrook :) This is exactly what I was after and although it takes the workflow out of PS I think its worth it. I will do some IQ comparrisons myself but it looks like this will be in use for the forseeable future.

    Photoshop resize script assitance

Easy really when you think about it, whichever axis X or Y is the longer then that determines whether it is landscae or portrait. I manually resize based on the longest measurement to 800 pixels and keep the aspect ratio the same and just need something to do that calculation in PS automatically...

    Java -> C# translator

I used one of these on a conversion project from java to c# about 3 years ago and in the end we gave up. The converter was the best on the market at the time but after 3 weeks of trying to compile, fixing stupid conversion issues and errors.. trying to compile, finding more issues.... eventually...

    Photoshop resize script assitance

I have about 500~1000 images I need to resize from various source folders and in both portrait and landscape. For small jobs I automate this by recording a script that opens the save for web console and sets the maximum size of the x or y axis depending on whether it is portrait or landscape to...

    Photoshop and VM machine

How does this look? I read a few reviews on the differences between the p35 and x38 chipsets and figure I dont need the extra gfx related features of the x38 boards. The Dell screen is a bit of an impulse purchase so would appreciate any comments on how good it is or if I should look at any...

    Photoshop and VM machine

I forgot to add that I will probably be adding a second monitor to my PC (maybe a 24" dell) and any graphics cards would need to be able to cope with this. I don't need it to play games though!

Dual 19in's or one 24in Widescreen

I am thinking of doing exactly this but I'm wondering what the resolution of each will do, eg does it crop the res of the larger screen or mean that the smaller screen has to be scrolled to see the whole desktop? Or is there some clever wizardry to let each screen have its own native resoltion?

    Photoshop and VM machine

Sorry to do this but I am so out of date with my knowledge of current hardware. I need to upgrade from my AMD 3700+ shuttle system and have a few specific requirements. Machine will be used for (in priority order): - Email internet and all the usual stuff - Photoshop CS3, usually ~30...
