In your position, I’d be using that old PC as an unraid box and leave the money in the bank. Doubt spending £1000 will get you a significantly better solution to your problem.
Wasn't it something like 70 odd percent of the population didn't support a war the day before the invasion of Iraq, and the day after the invasion about the same percentage supported it. Or maybe I'm misremembering.
No, it wouldn't power on at all. Didn't have time to disassemble and diagnose so packed it all away and forgot about it. Would love to get it working again at some point but too many hobbies and too little time. :p
I have one packed up somewhere. Get it out every few years for a bit of nostalgia. Last time though, it didn't work. It's on my list of things to have a look at when I get a chance. It's a very long list.
Not disagreeing with anything Avalon said, but I'd suggest if you've got the server already, at least get it running and play with it for a few days/weeks. Might as well get some free learning out of it - then stick it on the bay and get something more home optimal.
