Shop Like It's 1999 - Go Back In Time And Celebrate 25 Years of Overclockers UK

I remember paying £320 for 4x4MB of second hand SDRAM in the early 90s (was running OS/2 and just upgraded from 386sx to 486dx!) and thinking that that was a bargain.

Shop Like It's 1999 - Go Back In Time And Celebrate 25 Years of Overclockers UK

Bring back the old style "this week's special offers" page which, if I'm remembering correctly, had grand total of 10 items each week at a special discount ... I remember checking it each week to see if anything I was thinking of upgrading made it to the list!

    Interference from neighbours network

Where is the router in relation to where you are connecting to it I've WiFi? Same room, different room/floor ... and how many walls/floors in between (and also thinking of the direct line between the router and the WiFi device is it going through any walls at a very shallow angle).

    Noises since upgrade

Remember years ago upgrading my GPU and when I turned the PC on found the noise was so loud ... but I assumed that that was just the cost of the new generation of GPUs so put up with it. A few months later I was upgrading something else and was running the PC with the case open. I happened to...

    Sticky situation...

While too late for OP, the advice I seen which I took when I've upgraded a CPU or a cooler is to run the system for a few minutes first to get some heat into the thermal paste which can make it easier to twist the cooler off.

    Recommend Cooler for 5800X3D

I initially used the Brocken v3 I already was using on the 3700 I updgraded from but as a large retailer reduced peerless assassin to £32 in their recent sale I decided to go for that given all the positive review. On Cinebench by the end of 10 mins with the Brocken CPU temps had reached 85C...

    AM4 5600X3D in the making

    I got a b350 strix with a r5 1600 almost 5 years ago ... moved to a 3700x 2.5 years ago and then to a 5800x3d last month ... all with the same b350 motherboard.

The Radeon RX 6800 (XT) Owners Thread.

I bought a 6800xt and as I only had a 650W PSU I felt I'd need to upgrade that as well ... was going for an RM850x but wasn't in stock so thought let's get something that won't need upgrading forever and got a RM1000x instead. Well, running with a 5800x3d and the 6800xt a power meter on the...

8 year old PC, which bits to upgrade ?

Mine arrived yesterday and benefit of 580x3d vs 7-series is it was a quick chip swap - only slight drama (I'd already updated BIOS last year as had expected/hoped for a big black friday reduction that didn't appear) was Windows 10 deciding that as the CPU had changed then it wouldn't accept my...

8 year old PC, which bits to upgrade ?

Caved and have ordered a 5800x3d (from elsewhere) when saw it had hit £275 ... AM5/DDR5 can wait until (at least) 8xxx offers around Black Friday next year.

8 year old PC, which bits to upgrade ?

So does the 5800x3d and extra RAM make a (noticeable) difference. I've got a 3700x with 16GB and a rx6800xt but with a b350 motherboard and I've been dithering over whether a 5800x3d is a worthwhile upgrade, whether to go the whole hog and go to a 7800x3d with new mboard and ddr5 or...

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU Burns Up

I suspect it was just the standard statement that is attached to almost all software that says they make no promises that it actually works properly (normally with and added statement that they don't permit it to be used on medical, automotive or aeronautical applications)

    RX-V573 not sending picture/sound

Progress ... swapped the AVR to TV HDMI cable for the one I'd used for the temporary TiVo to TV I'dbeen using (something I'd been meaning to try) and things seem to be working better -TiVo signal immedaitely came through! So, will probably invest in a new set of HDMI cables!

    RX-V573 not sending picture/sound

well ... the fix only lasted a day - TiVo (on HDMIin1) is no longer showing (it was immediately after the system reset) but this time the NowTV and BluRay player (HDMIin2 and 4) are both still working through the receiver. So interim fix is Tivo connected direct to TV sending audio back to...

    RX-V573 not sending picture/sound

    RX-V573 not sending picture/sound

I've had a Yamaha RX-V573 for some time and until a couple of days ago its been working fine. However, its suddenly stopped sending anything to the speakers or TV most of the time. After a bit of checking cables etc I seem to have got (for now) the TiVo working through it but BluRay player and...

    Ddr4 3200mhz ram in a 2400mhz laptop

"Should clock down to 2400mhz but not gauranteed to be compatable." Be careful - that's what I thought when I put 32GB of 3200 DDR4 RAM (which was advertised as being compatible with 2950 and 2666) in my son's laptop which turned out to have an intel processor from a generation designed for 2666...

    Ryzen 7950X3D, 7900X3D, 7800X3D

For apps which aren't dependent on large L3 cache or can run on the 8 non-3d cores then 7950 will benefit from faster clocks and more cores. For gaming when 7950 is limited to the 8 3d-cores should be similar ... while 7800 seems to have a lower frequency limit that the 7950 has for 3d cores...

    5800x3D upgrade

I'm in a similar position considering an upgrade from a 3700. I've got a Asus B350f gaming motherboard - various articles show that this does support a drop in upgrade to 5800x3d but while it is possible is the B350 missing too many features that the next couple of generations of chipsets added...

Possibly not for long ... think I saw an article today saying Virgin were looking at a takeover of City Fibre.
