I've had a GX2, and it suffers from many problems, including micro-stuttering and low minimum FPS in many games. The GT280 is a single-GPU card that will actually provide better experience even if maximum FPS is lower.

That is a fair point. If you think the card is too expensive, don't buy it, nVidia will release cheaper models in due time. This card is the high end, it will not sell in huge numbers, but it will enable cheaper models that will be faster than current cards.

I guess you are referring to GX2. I can tell you from personal experience that GX2 suffers from numerous problems including very annoying stuttering in many games. Also the minimum FPS can actually be lower than 8800GTX.
