Spec my wife a small car please.

It took a lot of convincing to get my mum to move from a manual to auto when buying the jazz. Now she is adamant she would never go back to a manual. Funny that.

Have you ever heard of an unmarked police car not pulling someone over, but them getting fined anyway?

From what I remember from the picture of my car, the unmarked car was behind me and wouldn't have been stationary. Looking back, I probably should have challenged it as it seems like quite shaky grounds for a speeding fine but to be fair, I was doing the speed they said.

Have you ever heard of an unmarked police car not pulling someone over, but them getting fined anyway?

The only 3 points I ever had on my licence were for doing 35 in a 30, caught by an unmarked police car that never pulled me over. This was back in 2008ish so no idea if things have changed since.

Looking for a MMORPG to be immersed in.

Guild Wars 2 is the one mmo that I keep coming back to. It helps that there's no monthly subscription. I love the art style and the gameplay is far more fluid and fun that FF14 and WoW. It has a decent story / lore if you're into that but I also just find it very chill to play. Once you hit...

Spec my wife a small car please.

Ah well that is genuinely a big relief. I should have researched more. I'll blame the higher insurance on the rubbish driving of the jazz demographic ( your wife not included...my mum definitely is).

Spec my wife a small car please.

I bought my mum a 2013 Honda Jazz in 2020 and she loves it. It's reliable and built well but the CVT gearbox can take some getting used to. Inside is very spacious and well laid out for such a small car. Much more roomy than our Skoda fabia. The back seats fold up and can create a really big...

    Massive Car insurance costs?

Pleasantly surprised...first time in a long time that a multi car quote has actually saved us money, as usually it was cheaper with 2 different insurers. Vauxhall Corsa electric - £393 (£195 total excess) Skoda fabia estate - £223 (£195 total excess) £616 for the year, for both cars Last...

Does anyone else struggle day by day, week by week with work?

I worked in a bank call centre in Manchester (NatWest) for 3 years and I definitely had the work dread every morning. I did 10 hour shifts and that was bad enough, nevermind 12 hours. Speaking to people who didn't want to speak to you was a big mental drain and I found I had no energy left at...

So err, What’s Happened to the Princess of Wales?

I can only imagine she had a hysterectomy or abdominal surgery that required an ostomy, both of which have pretty long recovery times.

how much is your house insurance

Just renewed ours. Buildings and contents, £2k worth of bikes and £10k of jewellery, including loss or theft away from home. £25k of contents that are worth less than £1k. £187.05 with Hastings.

How often do you get a Dominos pizza? (Seventeen year old thread bump warning)

I'm not a papa johns convert because there's on a 1 minute drive / 10 minute walk from the house, and their bases are dairy free unlike dominos. I find they are both hideously expensive but at least our papa johns does a large pizza collected for £11.

What "man jobs" have you done today?

Overboarded half of the ceiling in the bedroom. Absolute nightmare doing it with 8x4 sheets, even with 2 of us. I ended up spending £35 on a ceiling prop from Toolstation which made it exponentially easier. Also used soudal filling foam around the door frame and windows. Great stuff but...

    Full EV Woes!

We've got a Corsa e with the same battery and presumably very similar architecture and it does seem to be poor in cold-ish weather. At 3c, climate set at 20c, heated steering wheel and heated seats on medium, I probably average 2.7m/kWh at 65mph on the motorway. It does seem to improve quite a...

Taking dividend in the first year of a company

Nothing to stop you taking dividends at any time if the company is in profit to at least the tune of the dividend amount. As long as it's recorded properly in the accounts (could go down as an interim dividend if not finalised in the accounts) and any tax is paid, then it should be fine. As...

Spare room rip out - how to deal with this window sill?

I'm thinking of the same route as you when I replace mine. I may just double / triple up on the plasterboard for packing, using adhesive foam to stick down, then adhesive the board on top.

What "man jobs" have you done today?

Apparently not. It must have fallen into the 'big and bulky' category due to the weight and size of items. I'm glad really as I can only imagine whoever delivered for Wickes would have been in a hurry to get to the next delivery and would have been less inclined to help unload everything into...

What "man jobs" have you done today?

Stripped the paint off a doorframe. Absolute worst job in terms of time Vs reward. Made slightly easier by a heat gun. Also paid a man and van £40 to collect 15 plasterboard sheets and 30 2.4m battens from Wickes because I'm an idiot and didn't realise gift cards couldn't be used for online...

Which order to renovate a room?

It's a 1950s house and all the internal brickwork is blue / grey engineering brick, with mortar that looks like Stevie wonder slapped it on. Weirdly there's the odd red brick that protrudes about 1cm proud of the other brickwork, I have no idea why. I don't know how plasterboarding around that...

Which order to renovate a room?

Ah ok, I presumed I may as well insulate all the walls but I'm not entirely sure why. So I can just use 12.5mm / 15mm plasterboard for all walls apart from the external wall, and insulated plasterboard on the external wall? That's far cheaper! I did look around for board lifter hire but...
