    Maximus Fsb:Ram ratio

Generally the DRAM settings seem to be on the same section as the various overclocking options like FSB frequency, CPU voltage, etc. At least on recent ASUS boards this appears to be the case. On mine (P5K) it's in Advanced -> Jumperless Configuration, I think that in the MF BIOS it's in the...

    Q6600 or Q9450

Your CPU budget covers both the Q6600 and the Q9450, so from a non-overclocking perspective it comes down to a question of whether you think £94 more for the newer CPU is worth it. I recently decided that for me it wasn't, but I had also already decided that I would be overclocking, and the...

    Q6600 or Q9450

You don't specify a budget, but if money is tight then I don't think you can beat the Q6600 OEM for value for money (for quad CPUs). You will be unlucky to have a CPU that won't overclock well no matter which of them you pick (but it's always possible).

***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

Yep, from OcUK. OEM. Yep, cooling and the memory really. I doubt it will go much past 800MHz, so I won't get much further than 3.6GHz anyway, cooling or not - although I haven't tried pushing it, so this assumption may be wrong. I'm happy with the clock anyway, not looking for something...

Real Temp - New temp program for Intel Core processors

Hmm, hang on, you're probably right, I think it is more than possible I ran the .bat to load up 0.95.6 before trying 0.96.1, so that'll be why then. It was late, that's my excuse anyway :D

    Q6600 ok on a 500W with 7900GTX?

As already mentioned, it should be fine. I'm running a Q6600 (95W/G0) at 3.5GHz with an 8800GT on a Seasonic S12 500W without problem.

Real Temp - New temp program for Intel Core processors

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 (SP1) and CoreTemp 0.96.1 works without problem for me. I haven't tried it in Vista x86 but I assume it will work there as well. For 0.95.6 I had to download a "special" x64 download which contained a .bat file to run before running the executable (I forget the...

***The Official Q6600 Overclocking Thread ***

So, despite the Penryn quads, I decided to go for a Q6600. What turned up was an Intel Q6600 G0 (SLACR) L739A836. It is cooled by a Tuniq Tower 120 on an ASUS P5K Premium WiFi (0504 BIOS) running Vista x64. I've been doing a bit of experimentation, no long Prime tests yet, but running some...

release date for next "generaton" cpu?

I think you meant Socket 715 (Socket H), as Socket 771 is the dual processor capable "server" socket version of 775 (insofar you can call it that).

    External Hard Drive

As far as I am aware, all the ones in OcUK's Portable External section are USB-powered. I think all drives in any of the "Desktop External" sections are powered from the mains.

Locking the ram to 800Mhz on a GA-P35-DS3P?

There is no way to lock it to any particular speed. All you can do is run it at a RAM:FSB 1:1 ratio (in the Gigabyte BIOS this is 2.0x) or higher. Since 2.5x is 832MHz and 2.4x (2.4 x 333 = 799MHz) probably isn't a multiplier option, your closest non-overclocking match is probably 2.0x (666MHz)...

    undetected external drive

Can you see it in Disk Management? (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management, then Disk Management). It may be you need to delete the old partition and reformat it to FAT32 or NTFS so Windows can recognise it before it will be listed as an accessible drive in My Computer. Of...

    Can't remove folder from Vista

It might also be worth keeping Unlocker in mind to avoid a pesky reboot. It's freeware, and works wonders.

    Windows Installation date?

In any case, to get the install date (at least on XP) run "systeminfo" from the command line (Start -> Run -> cmd). What you're looking for is "Original Install Date".

    1066Mhz RAM

Ah, you're right, there was a P4 Extreme 3.46GHz for 1066FSB. That's probably the one, and a RAM:FSB 2:1 should do it. I would've thought that it would find that with 'Auto', but perhaps not (and it's picking 3:2 instead, which runs it at ~800MHz RAM speed).

    1066Mhz RAM

I assume you mean a Pentium 4 3.4GHz of some sort. The CPU is an 800MHz FSB CPU, but the FSB is "quad-pumped" so the actual bus clock is 200MHz. The bus clock is the base speed the memory "operates from", in other words it is the basic element in how much data it can transfer, which is "how...

    WTFness

If it's the standard Windows volume control and not a third-party one, look for "sndvol32.exe" under "Processes" in Task Manager. If it is there, try to kill it.

    Icybox questions

I have an MB-559 and can second rpstewart's suggestion. It is well built, looks nice and is easy to use. It comes with one set of trays and all the cables needed (USB2,eSATA,power). The trays also fits in the Icy Dock MB-453,-454 and -455, which can be handy but may or may not be a factor (it...

    Vista Ultimate - winsxs folder

WinSxS is a system folder, and you mess around with system folders at your own peril. Things can go very wrong if you do. The "right" thing to do is increase the size of the system partition if necessary (which may involve a bit of work, like re-partitioning, re-formatting, re-installing; but...

    Reccomend me a external 750+

If by 'size' you mean capacity (and not physical dimensions), then a 3.5" is the way to go (either by means of buying an internal drive and using an external caddy, or buying a Seagate FreeAgent or similar from other manufacturers). In essence, yes. The MB-559 comes with a carrier that you...
