I have two 512 sticks in my rig 1 in slot 1 & the second in slot 3. I have 2 yellow slots and 2 more slots that are a different colour. I was told to put 1 in ech colour to active it but it is not doing so????????

I would unplug all the power connections and replug tham to make sure all seated ok. also check that your PSU can handle the power requirments if you got a cheap PSU and a power hungry graphics card you could be in trouble there. With you saying its ok on side I would 1st chech power...
