It's prob a lot to do with air flow in my case, I've got a crappy biege case crammed with a pair of oc'd 7800 512's that throw a lot of heat up into the top of the case. :(
the other thing you can't ignore is how rock solid is x-fire? Sli still has issues, but it is an established platform - x-fire has yet to get into teething problems... another reason i was put off by ATI's offering..
maybe, maybe not. i'm not going to get into a whats best ATI or NVIDIA debate. All i can say is that I owned an ATI 800XTPE before my NV, and i hated it. Not the card, just the whole upgrade process of ATI drivers - it can't just be me that had constant problems trying to remove them cleanly...
i have only seen this happen once on mine, and it was when i overclocked it too high (i had set the fsb to 265 i think).
i had to pull the cmos battery out to reset, then all was ok again.
I have the deluxe and dual slot cards in sli, and have been wondering the same thing about the Physx card, as it will definately be in my shopping cart. I read somewhere that a short while after the PCI lauch, they will release a PCI express version quote "to cope with a higher bandwidth"...
it's the age old conundrum... to cut a long story short, if cost is a factor but you insist on bleeding edge technology, then buy the model below the best - that way you wont be paying silliy money for the latest, and besides, the latest is only the latest today - it will be second hand and out...
