Just do the usual basic checks, and if its a cheap one expect no service history as most DT125s are owned by young people who lose paperwork etc.

If you're set on a off road style thing then DT125 is best option. Fairly reliable, cheap to buy, hold the value well and there is a plethora of spares available. The other option at the complete opposite end of the scale is something like an NSR 125 or RS 125, they aren't so reliable, not very...

Polo 6n 1.4 (pref 16v if you can), only worries is throttle bodies occasionally go, apart from that ace cars!

Is it a 6n Polo? around the 97 sorta style, if so could be the throtlle body as thats a common problem with 6n polos. I'd advice asking in the technical section on the www.clubpolo.co.uk forum if you haven't already :) Cheers Alex
