Thank you. Pardon my ignorance but will the four drives come up as one drive, even if they are on seperate channels. I have not had a dual channel card before and only have one cable at the moment. I assume on host raid I will be able to add all four drives to make one array.
I have 4 x seagate cheetahs and an Adaptec 39320 raid card. Will my best set up be the four drives in RAID 0 or will I get better performance by using two drives on each of the available channels on the Adaptec. I only have one cable so I will have to purchase another to take advantage of dual...

I had two seagate 80Gb barracuda SATA drives in raid 0 on an Asus A7n8x deluxe (can't remember the raid controller but i don't think it was Sil3114 - look it up if you have to). I had 2 partitions on the array 40Gb for OS and 120Gb for data. Unfortunatley I had a catastrophic failure ( my power...
The problem is that when i am trying to load onto the scsi, I physically disconnect the IDE drive, so the only drives I have are the scsi adapter and hard disk and the IDE dvd drive.
I have just purchased a Gigabyte GA-7A8DW, Adaptec (IBM) U320 SCSI Controller 2 adapter and a Hitachi 73 Gb 10000rpm U320 drive. I also have a 200Gb spinpoint IDE drive. I have loaded XP SP2 onto the IDE and loaded the SCSI drivers from the supplied cd and the scsi is recognised no problem - I...
I've just bought a server motherboard and two opteron 246's. I intended ro overclock the chips so I've also bought a swiftech watercooling setup but i read the excellent memory FAQ on here tonight and learned that registered ECC is a no-no for overclocking. Is this still the case (the FAQ is a...
MAllen, what kind of adapter do you have. I have a U320 80 pin scsi drive and a 68 pin Adaptec controller. I tried to purchase an adapter from a local store but was told by the salesman that the adapters don't support full speed and I would be limited to 80 Mb/s transfer rate. Does your adapter...
I tried to purchase a 80 pin to 68 pin adapter from a local store yesterday but the proprieter told me that that the U320 rated adapters do not work. He claimed that my drive (which is U320) would be limited to 80mb/s. Is this correct. I have seen many of these on the net so I'm a bit...
I've just bought Adaptec U320 SCSI Controller from ebay for £50. It supports pci-x but the only motherboards that support this seem to be server mobos. This obviously means registered memory and xeon or opteron chips. Somebody warned me that scsi would cost me the earth - why didn't I listen? :)
I was given a brand new 73 Gig 10000rpm hitatchi U320 scsi drive and to take advantage of this I considered buying a server motherboard with onboard scsi. After a bit of investigation i found that the general concensus is that much better results can be obtained using a dedicated, correctly setup...
