Need a New GPU for pc built in 2013 - i5-2500k

Second hand 960/970gtx or rx470/480. These'll still cost you £100-£200 because it's a naff time to buy, but that's probably what i'd look at in your shoes.

    GTX 970 to what?

I was in almost exactly the same spot last month with gtx970 and a 4790k. Trouble is, for less than £300, you'll struggle to find any sort of meaningful upgrade, let alone something that will power that resolution comfortably. I reluctantly went for the 6700xt for £700, though if the 3060ti had...

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

Should be ok for when I upgrade the platform as well. Not sure i've ever migrated the GPU from one system to the next, but for £700, i'm darn well planning to get a least a few years out of it. And to be fair, it may well last a while as it is more or less what the consoles use.

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

I didn't. I really wasn't planning at all to spend that sort of money and anything more would have broken my heart. With that said, the 6700xt really is doing the job. Overclocked the core to 2650mhz without touching cooling or voltage and it eats it up at 4k for what i'm playing. Really quite...

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

I finally (had to) take the plunge. My brother bought me a 4k monitor, not knowing that I really didn't have the funds for the horsepower to power it. I ended up spending £700 on a 6700xt. Well, let's hope it can play MechWarrior 5 and Pathfinder at that res.

RTX 3060 and 3060Ti supply might get a lot worse

I have never seen or even heard of anyone knowingly and deliberately removing the space between the 'a' the following word. I assume you're winding us up, because it was a headache to make sense of what you posted. ;)

What's the best upgrade GPU card for my build with an i7 4790K without bottleneck problems?

I am in almost exactly the same boat (also on a 4970k) except my current card is a gtx970 and it is still working. I'm probably going to go for 3060ti as well when I can find one for less than £400. That or a second hand 2070S/2080.

How much WILL you pay for a graphics card?

Totally agree. And as soon as I can find one (or a 2070S or 6700) at that price, I'll be all over it.

How much WILL you pay for a graphics card?

I'm looking for a reasonable upgrade from a gtx970, to pair with a 4790k, for around £300. Given I paid £199 for the gtx970 around 7 years ago, I feel like £300 should be able to purchase something considerably more substantial than it currently can.

    Still a rip off?

Time was when £240 was enough to buy a card the 60 suffix outright. With that said, £680 is hardly an outlaying price in the current environment.

Which Graphics cards do you regret buying?

FX5200 256mb and fx5800U. The first was a mistake due to lack of knowledge (it had 256mb! I thought that meant it was good), the second a mistake of trusting that nvidia was still best. After that it was a vanilla 6800 128mb, and that was like night and day. I had almost completely forgotten...

What do AMD GPUs do better than Nvidia GPUs?

One thing AMD/ATI have traditionally done well with is performance over time. On release nvidia cards often slightly beat out the AMD competition at the same price, but 5 years on and those numbers reverse. AMD seem to take longer to get their act together with drivers, but when they do you see...

    Let's compare actual cost

    I remember my first card was a Voodoo 3 3000 for a little over £100. Since then 6800 => 7800gt => 7900gt (SLi) => 4870 => 6850 => gtx970. I don't think any individual card was over £200 new (though the gtx970 was bought at a good discount). It's been almost 7 years since i got the gtx970, but...

The Corsair TX750w. What can it manage?

Hello any and all, I have this old PSU and it's been kind to me over the years. Currently running a 4790k with gtx970 and I'm looking to put a new GPU in there. Any idea what it can handle? It was pretty reasonable in its day and I think PSUs generally have a better shelf life than other...

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

You think so? I got that PSU 10+ years ago, but I suppose nothing 'future proof' is ever altogether future proof. I'll keep that in mind and probably go for something a little less juicy then. I reckon this old power supply has one more build left in it, as long as I'm sensible. EDIT: Sorry, I...

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

Well I've got a Corsair CX750, which I think should be good for anything excepting the very top end (6900xt/rtx3090). But please do correct me if I am wrong.

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

If i recall correctly it's 3.5gb of DDR5 and 0.5gb of a slower ram, DDR3 I think. Why they made it that way, I don't know. In regards the 980ti though, you're right. The price isn't too awful, at least compared to the similarly performing 1070/2060. I'm just not sure that I want to go with such...

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

Barring the new effects, it apparently does. Though it isn't a rock solid 60fps and I do wonder what the stutter level is like when things get messy on screen. The 970 though feels well undergunned when I put it on those settings. Perhaps the vram is the issue as i've screwed the clocks out of...

Best graphics card match for a 4790k?

I agree with you both to a certain extent. I'm in the very unfortunate spot of wanting/needing (yearning) to upgrade, but whereas a GPU upgrade under normal circumstances would be the obvious move, under these very particular circumstances, it sort of does make sense to do everything else now...
