    A SATA power supply riddle

Pictures please? I wouldn't start cutting anything until you're certain of exactly what's happening, and your post is nowhere near clear enough. Looking at the Lian-Li hotswap trays, I don't think they've got cables attached at all. If so, it's far more sensible to use the correct cables for...

    A SATA power supply riddle

Dodgy tray connection? If it's the same cable between the two machines, you should also remember that cables between different modular PSUs (even sometimes the same brand) may look identical, but be differently wired. *Never* mix cables between PSUs.

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

https://www.reddit.com/r/SolarUK/comments/1bu38lx/new_british_standard_for_battery_storage_systems/ This may be interesting for anyone considering things. TLDR: New BSI standard / guidance for suggested battery placement, which basically seems to suggest the only place to install a battery is...

    Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Same email, along with another I can't find at the minute suggesting I may have too high a proprtion of my declared assets in there..... It's all FCA based madness I'm sure, Freetrade are pushing a similar survey at the minute. I've got nothing remotely risky / meme either, just a bunch of...

HP Laptop, Windows 11, flickering black screen.

By no means certain it was the February one, it was the most recent preview at the time, which was late Jan / early Feb. Unfortunately I've got massive amounts of cruft running on this install or I might be able to give you a better idea of the program thats triggering it..

HP Laptop, Windows 11, flickering black screen.

Try uninstalling the most recent few Windows updates. (February preview from memory) This caused similar glitches on my desktop, but I never got as far as trying to debug properly. Just dumped the update off again....

Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Don't need freebies, thanks though :) I'm always just wary of videos and guides stating just how easy it is (never take apart a Dyson for example...) just before it all goes pear shaped.

Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Question: I've got a launch switch with a dodgy fan, which I'd rather sort out before the whole thing cooks itself. I've done plenty of laptops in the past, but never a tablet / phone (which is basically what the switch is). How do-able is this really for someone like me? Online guide doesn't...

How much does a forum cost to run?

Short answer is that it depends on a massive number of factors. You can run a forum like this with hyper aggressive page caching on a slower / cheaper server, and have it work acceptably 'most' of the time, but glitch out under times of heavy load. Your next challenge is backups. Assuming the...

Commodore 1540 plugged in after 35 years...

Really sounds like you blew a cap somewhere on the drive. Probably a motor smoothing cap I'd guess. It's good that the C64 itself works, but at this point, I'd be unplugging it and not doing *anything* until all the caps have been checked and dodgy ones replaced- otherwise you risk a very good...

Look up OpenAI Whisper. There are various variants about, but this does what you want locally for free :)

    £20 Steam credit spend?

GTA5 was free on Epic at one point. If you're a freebie hoarder, check there :)

    Samsung Galaxy S24 Family Thread

Re the smartswitch issue: It's probably caused by transferring from a device running OneUI 5 (or previous) to OneUI 6. Had this on both the S22 and Tab S8 when upgrading (on device)- something just seems to get borked in the change.

    SolaX - Inverter/Battery/Accessory Discussion

It's a V3.0 dongle. The system was installed on the 20th of December, the inverter / battery manufacturing dates are in October, so I'd assume the dongle to be of similar age FWIW. The API data isn't live, according to the HA post it's ~5 mins delayed. Seems to work well enough for my purposes.

    SolaX - Inverter/Battery/Accessory Discussion

Old style app is far better than the new one (Android if that matters...) I'm currently using the cloud API (as opposed to the local modbus) from here for HA: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/solax-x1-hybrid-g4-local-cloud-api/506172 Need to look into this a bit more, as the yield is...

    CPL Polarising Lens

Fake Hoyas are rife I'm afraid. If you get a real one from Aliexpress I'd be gobsmacked. e.g. https://goughlui.com/2019/04/21/fake-hoya-pro1-digital-uv-filter/

    CPL Polarising Lens

Buy a Hoya, but avoid Aliexpress. It'll almost certainly be a fake from there. Some things I'd buy from Aliexpress, but not name-western brand kit....

    Hmrc - ebay/airbnb/vinted etc new rules - 1st Jan 2024

I regularly buy stuff in a category that is plagued with traders masquerading as private sellers and dancing round rules like this. The harder these people are hit the better. Bookkeeping and basic business ethics is not hard- If these changes cause you any issue, or as a result you need to...

BRSK - Moderate Nat, laptop and pc on same network

Two on the same network is never going to give you anything other than moderate NAT on one. TLDR: The game communicates via a set of ports. Your router forwards each port from your external IP to your internal IP. If you think of this as a piece of string, you should see that each port can...

Sky Wifi - No signal outside living room

If it's the walls, which it sounds like it is (the Sky router should go through a couple of 'normal' brick walls and provide an OK connection), no booster or router will help much if at all. Cabling is the only real solution with thick walls unfortunately. Ideally run ethernet physically, but...
