    Conroe board sugestions?

There's an 18 page thread on XS about the Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 because the OP got FSB 487 !! There haven't been enough testing on the board from others, so we don't know yet whether it was a fluke. He was using a 6300 and got FSB 487, however, someone on there with a ES 6600 Step 5 got only...

    ***Conroe Post here***

Make sure all the components are seated correctly on the motherboard. I was stumped on my last build when nothing would even turn on, but found out that I hadn't seated the RAM properly. I took them out and put them back in, and it worked like a charm. Hope that helps!

    (White) noise generator

I thought that white noise was the only "colour" of noise (like when you turn on an untuned analogue TV and you see white specs flying around and a noise (called white noise)). TidBit: White noise is the left-over radiation from the big-bang being received by your TV and turned into sound and...

Web page hosting problem with Apache

S Open your httpd.conf file will be, then search for "user", and you should find something like this: This tells you the linux username and group that apache uses to access files on your computer. You need to make sure that this user is able to read (and if applicable, write) to your...

    For the gamers

If anyone is interested, you can also get native linux versions of doom3 an unreal tournament Doom 3 Unreal Tournament They should definitely do more native linux games. Cedega is fine, but there are sometimes stability problems, not all games work, and there is a slight performance hit.

    dx10

We'll just have to find out when Far Cry Crisis comes out (looks hotter than a fiery ninja standing on a Pentium 4 ;)) For those considering buying a DX10 card when they first come out, here is what I would (and will) do: 1) Buy a single 1900xt and a crossfire-capable motherboard now 2)...

    1-3 Days?

I second that question; Gibbo, when are you going to get the 6600's? /twiddles_thumbs

    1-3 Days?

I think there were reports on XS that you only need to update the BIOS to boot using an ES conroe, and the retail ones do work off-the-bat (well, long enough to get into bios settings and flash it). I can't remember where on XS though, shall have a look...

    Conroe compatable SLI Motherboards ??

Or if you are impatient, the intel badaxe (at the bottom of this page ) It isn't officially meant to support SLI, but it does with hacked drivers ;) Have fun!

    Conroe now available from OcUK!

OcUK's Conroe page now shows 6800 as "1-3 days", with the rest staying at "24th July". Not long now! I'm after a 6600, but why does it seem that OcUK will be getting the 6800 before the others? Can't wait! At the mo I have a 3.2Ghz P4 with an Nvidia MX4400 and onboard sound. I should...

Will ATI physics require crossfire, or just two PCI-Express slots?

I'm currently speccing a new conroe system, and I have a plan ;) I'm going to buy the Asus P5B Deluxe which uses the P965 chipset (so there is no crossfire or SLI), however, it does have two PCI-Express slots. Will this be enough to run a graphics card as a graphics card, and a second card...

    More Asus P5W woes

Is this just the Asus P5W board (the more expensive 975x based one)? Or does it also affect the P5B (the 965 based one)? I'm planning on getting the P5B (the cheaper one), so does this have similar problems? Thanks!

    the linux window manager debate!

I use KDE, and my experience with it has improved recently due to 2 new programs I installed: Katapult: Press alt+space and type what you want. You can tell it to put on a specific song, or show you a specific folder, or run a specific program, etc... very cool. It's in the debian...

Best 1900XT brand; Connect3D or Sapphire?

These are the cheapest ones on the OcUK site (£260 and £263), and I was just wondering which of these two brands are the best to buy from. Or, should I buy one of the other ones? I'll be putting a Zalman VF900 on it and overclocking as far as possible, so I want a good brand so I'll be able...
