:) Not really the same problem though, this is something like a minor interpolation bug in the code. If the game ran as the OP is saying, we'd all get free speedhacks :P
Definitely sounds heat related... is the chipset fan/sink attached and turning? Also, get rivatuner or similar app and make sure the fan speeds on the vid card are set to 100% all the time. I had an X800 XT once that by default would sit at something like 75% fan AND would overheat (to the...
Wrong :P
This should never be a problem, the old dos MSCDEX etc would still just treat it as a CD Reader
Plenty of old (OLD) games didn't have any speed checking since the game all of the PCs around were not vastly difference in speed and it made no noticable difference to the gameplay...
Well, final post for now, and I'm gonna leave it running all day whilst im at work.
2.9Ghz Prime stable,
3DMark06...
4039 3dmarks
sm2.0 1767
HDR/SM3 1736
CPU Score 1123
Seamless gaming :P I'm pretty sure that I can get 3Ghz out of it with a little tweaking, the ram is at 3-4-4-8...
Well ive been playing BF2 and it plays more smoothly at MUCH higher settings overall, so im pleased with the upgrade even though the figures maybe dont do it justice :)
Now I just need to find my sweet spot O/C ing, in windows at 3ghz as i write this... i have yet to try a game at this speed...
Should get my new parts today (am at work, will install when I get home)
I write the following for speed comparison purposes as requested.....
I'm hoping that I don't actually have to reinstall Windows seeing as A64 / Opteron are pretty similar as far as Windows is concerned and I'm even...
Well the first thing you should know is that because you have 'mismatched' ram, your (faster) PC2700 stick is already running at the slower PC2100 speed. Depending on what your motherboard / chipset etc is it may be worth your while just ditching your ram and buying some PC3200 (the standard...
Can anyone suggest a decent benchmark to compare these two systems? (something that I can download and run tonight then run again tomorrow after I rebuild my new system).
Sorry i probably mis-represented myself, I AM an overclocker but I tend not to push components to their limit. I get stuff at a good point in the price/performance/overclockability curve - push them as fast as they will go without altering voltages etc too much, then just leave them :) I don't...
The SPD timings (the 3-4-4-8) are what the manufacturer set the RAM to run at. It will always run at those settings by default, you will have to force it.
There was a thread here recently (cant see it atm) showing people getting some decent Geil overclocks, apparently the Geil is on quite loose timings and people were having no troubles running it much faster. I dont remember reading anything about the OcUK generic stuff.
I'm partly blaming my hitching on both it being a 754 chip/board and having 1gb (of not very fast) RAM.
I have read that people have reported large speed increases just from jumping from 754 to 939.
