To be honest I would doubt it is the CPU. Did the motherboard post (ie beep) prior to the fault when turned on? From my experience MB's tend to be the easiest bit to break. Many turn out to be DOA. They will often run the fans but it will end there. Try disconnecting everything from the board...

The CMOS? Yes have just reset. I get the running LED On the board and fans spinning etc. I can't think what else to do!!!

Have tried with the memory in and have also reseated the CPU, fan, memory. This board has on board graphics so I should not need the GPU. Wondering though whether is worth pulling the graphics from my own pc to test?

Building a pc for otherhalf and motherboard will not post. ASUS K8N-VM. I have not used one of these before. Have unplugged everything, leaving only the CPU and fan connected. Power to the board but no bios post. I suspect this is DOA? Any advice appreciated!

Awesome. I ordered a similar setup a couple of weeks ago and am well pleased. The 3700+ seems an awesome overclocking chip. I ordered the OEM version and have overclocked it as in signature... and it's not even breaking a sweat at this level. A bit more tweaking at the weekend me thinks!
